In my near obsession with checking my profile for a "accepted" status I noticed there is now a redeem code tab... what does this mean folks?

Lots of closed betas give keys out to promotional outlets (IGN, gameinformer, etc) as part of the marketing. Let's hope there will be lots to go around

Often larger MMO sites will get "beta keys" to give away in contests etc leading up to a games launch, more then likely this is being put in place for such a thing

yes and given that they warn about abuse/ban it makes sense that if you were to acquire a from a show rather than the normal beta process. Makes me wish I was going to E3 this year.

Word to the wise don't try putting in random alpha numerical codes, you will probably not get into the beta for trying that.

could be a code to provide the beta player the starting equipment for beta testing, without changing the game for beta

Looks like to me where you would put the code in for maybe when you go to download the client or maybe it your founder day code but what ever it is don;t abuse it it threats a ban and that would mean no mech goodness.
