I realised yesterday that whilst I was cowering behind a building listening to the impact of missiles on the building that my 2 tons of AMS was heroically trying to protect the building from destruction.

Now whilst I applaud the saving of property, I don’t applaud it at the expense of my 2 tons of AMS ammo!

As such I would like to suggest the ability to turn my AMS on and off

I agree with that.
Additionally, I recently noticed my AMS activate for what seemed to be friendly missiles hitting a nearby mech.
If that turns out to be true, that would be another reason to have an AMS toggle.

I'd like it to be a hold down button, I'll take a toggle for tag.

Agreed,

I'd like to have a toggle for AMS, too.

Sounds like a good idea to me. Of course, I can totally see me watching a rain of LRMs coming in and thinking, "OK the AMS can handle that ... OK ... any time AMS ... AMS?! ... OH S***! I forgot to turn it on."

Thats even more reason to put a toggle function in. To punish the player for failing the controls.

There is another reason for a "AMS hold" button: Without you can find where an enemy mech is hiding beyond a building. Just fire a single LRM or SRM if you have lost that damn jenner...

As a light pilot I really hate it if I'm sitting in wait and then the AMS starts to shoot (98% of pilots dont get the hint, but the 2% are normally the people you really dont want to get it )

That has totally happened to me. I was sneaking up behind an LRM carrier, he launched a salvo and my AMS went to work. It did a pretty good job, but this guy was on his toes and new exactly what that sound meant.

sounds like a really bad idea. many puggers have stated that they dont want their ams going off to hit missiles that arent being shot at them. they really dont get that its a team game and keeping your team alive is more important than a re-arm bill. i think this would hurt puggers, and have no effect on the better players at all. there are so few times where you dont want ams that it seems pointless.

I find quite a few times that I don't want my AMS to fire, but admittedly, I want it on more often than off.

If I am tucked behind a building and letting the enemy waste their LRMS then I don't need it on. If I am sneaking up behind an LRM boat then I don't need it on. Nor do I need it on when I am just out of range of the enemy.

A simple toggle button would be great. Keep the AMS on by default, just give me the option to turn it off if I want to.

agreed, but think of the pubbers, ya behind a building you dont want it defending you, but what about the missiles going over you toward your team. the pubber will not know to turn it on for that. defending your team is just as important as yourself. it is after all 8v8, which means 8 hit point pools vs 8 hp pools, if you can stop even one missile from hitting a team member its a good thing.

Any mech that fires missiles should suffer a 5 second AMS off penalty.

Agreed, AMS toggle would be a good thing.

On a side note, It appears that the AMS does not see terrain as an obstacle to it's targeting. I've had my AMS attempt to engage missiles fired outside a cave I was traversing. The cave walls were clearly between me and the missiles and I assume the walls were preventing my AMS from disabling the missiles but the AMS rattled away at them anyhow.

A bug fix on that would be nice.

I'd like an AMS toggle, but I'd also like missiles that don't magically pierce through buildings and hit me anyway...

I agreed that this is a must have. I have been in many occasions where I wish that I still had AMS ammo left for that ever so resilient Streak Cat that managed survive (assuming AMS targets SSRMS).

It does target SSRMs, but only at longer ranges and doesn't shoot down very many. AMS is fairly useless overall against SSRMs. Just another reason they are the most powerful weapon in the game atm.

There is a much better solution than turning AMS off. Have AMS do a line of sight check before firing so it stops shooting into buildings and hill sides.
