Hi,

After going through a bunch of search results which didn't answer my question, I thought I would ask here and risk the 'search fail' flames. ;)

Is there a general user.cfg guide or manual which explains what codes are available and what they do? I have seen some guides for lower-end users, but I would like to do some modifications to my cockpit - like use the displays to actually display things...

Also, how does one ensure the user.cfg is enabled or stays enabled after a patch?

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Nope, sorry

huge swaths of the user cfg settings are based o default cryengine settings, I imagine someone well-versed in cryengine could make such a guide but the bulk of it would not be worth it to explain every single line.

I was actually more interested in those specific commands which apply to this game. I expect loading the heatsink status on my in-cockpit display won't be found in the cryengine site manuals... ;)

During the Closed Beta, there was a fantastic guide posted in the forums for editing the User.cfg file to improve video performance. It was an invaluable tool for people like me who run the game on less-than-cutting-edge hardware.

Unfortunately PGI, in spite of claiming that the Closed Beta forums would be "archived but available", has not thus far seen fit to make them so, and therefore all that great info is lost to us.

I took them at their word (yes, I should know better by now) and didn't bother saving it.

There is something here, you should really use the search first.

This...

Blade XXL and Yaros among some of the others that have posted in there and the resident cfg wizards, but results may vary and with recent patches alot of the items that have really helped framerates have been locked down... there is also some configs for max settings if you have the rig for it.

We encouraged tweaking with the user.cfg files in the closed beta, but this is no longer encouraged reasons being, the in game settings now alter many of these settings and we simply can't support every random user.cfg the fans can generate, many of these options have issues and can cause graphical corruption so we won't be supporting random cfg files (what works for your machine may have major issues on another).

We work closely with those that showed interest in helping in this area in the Closed Beta, Colonel Pada Vinson, Blade XXL, Yaros etc. they have sent in their changes and we continue to incorporate them to benefit everyone and test the changes against multiple configs.

Eventually when the in game settings are more final we may release a guide on what can be altered in the user.cfg file but for now we'd appreciate it if you left these files alone. If you feel strongly about making changes and genuinely want to help then please state your interest and we'll try to involve you otherwise for now it's best just to ignore the user.cfg

That is great, but not very helpful right now to the people who can't play, or those who are currently forced to endure horrible performance.

Basically without the user.cfg tweaks, I couldn't manage tolerable FPS on quadcore with a 550ti. I would have been forced to quit your game and not spent any MC until such time it was playable. I know I am not alone.

(Having said that)
I know you guys are trying, and have done many good things/made some really good decisions, and we are kinda hard on you all, including myself sometimes. I love the game...I just want everyone to be able to play and for it to be as good as I know it can be.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

To the OP:
There is a link in my signature to some configs I use and a thread on how to tweak this stuff. I pray the Devs continue to allow this until such time massive improvements in performance are seen by the majority of the community.

Hi Onyx

I do appreciate that, though from what I'm seeing currently most of the performance issues are not things that can even be effectively tackled through the user.cfg they relate to optimizing various in game systems, we're working as quickly as possible to address some of these and get the changes out to bring performance back up.

Like putting in DX11? :)

Entirely possible, I just know for me personally once I figured out my cpu was throttling and my gpu was throttling and fixed these issues I was still only able to manage FPS in the 20's at best with the lowest in game settings. I tried running stock just like you all suggested we do after the patches. Then I did the tweaks, blade's files, played with some user.cfgs and can now play at 30+fps most games...I even hit 40+ sometimes. So for me at least it was a different game with those options at my disposal.

I'm confident you guys will work it out...and I'm good for now. But I know a lot are still having problems...I just helped a guy out the other night getting all the tweaks/user.cfg working and he got at least another 5-10 fps he said. That can be the difference between playable...and unplayable for us low end broke guys :)

I'm hoping that helps with performance...My understanding is it should, and as a bonus the game will look better....Crossing my fingers. My biggest fear is they'll shutdown the custom user.cfg's before things are to a point where my system can run the game smoothly without them.

I hope this happens soon... personally my framerates have been in a steady decline since the early beta... and my computer is not a high end rig, but does meet the minimum requirements and can play comparable games at a decent framerate... so i'm waiting to see what optimizations come along before upgrading the rig right now.

but some of the main things the custom cfg did is remove the very distracting blur of the whole map extending 75% of the visual range, (it's like the mech is nearsighted)... actually turning off shadows etc.

That's why we didn't get a very much needed bugfix patch today right?

I can barely play a match without crashing using the normal settings provided (low/med/high/very high) and have to resort to a user.cfg to get a relatively stable game going. Without them I spend most of matches wondering if I'll crash to desktop at any moment My machine is a 3.3ghz intel i5 with a geforce gtx 660 so I know it's not on my end.

The only relevant answer I've seen so far is to wait for directx 11 support to be put in.
