People who want expensive mechs, but don't want to bother with the process of grinding in order to buy the one they want, have discovered that they can queue up in a trial mech, remain inactive through the whole game and get a guaranteed 60k CBills every 15 minutes. Those of us who actually take part in the fight, and try to accomplish something in a mech we paid for, frequently get far less profit thanks to the cost of repairs.

I don't mind dying and I expect to lose the majority of the time, playing in PUGs. But its extremely frustrating to keep finding myself in teams where AFKers are making more profit from a match they took no part in, than I am. It feels like I'm being punished for A piloting my own Mech, and B actually trying to do something. Once the match is clearly hopeless, I'm much better off running away and trying to hide, rather than continuing to fight, since that frequently makes a difference of 30k-60k in repair costs.

If you get one or two discons, afks, or suicide-spammers, which is more common and 'efficient' from the exploit mindset (You load up a trial, suicide by overheat, load up another one, repeat ad-nasueum) your team is most likely to lose, especially if they go 0/5 in the first two minutes, which is distressingly common.

It feels cowardly to just run off and hide, but it's awfully tempting than facing down an entire assault lance on your own.

Not all discons are created equal. About 1 out of 10 times I get the blackscreen, or near blackscreen with 8-bit graphics.

Why stick around? You see this as soon as you connect to a game. Disconnect, reboot the game, and try again. Sometimes I type in "blackscreen" before I go, but no idea if people see it.

Same here, one of ten games i get the same blackscreen or 8 bit problem... most times ill stay in game to collect C-bills, while i take a leak :D, but when i feel like playing ill just reboot/ etc... thruthfully, takes about same time either way before i get into the fight again.

hhave i mentioned already i am too old for cockpit view, i want 3rd perspective eventually, love the game, hate the motion sickness ;)

i agree here also, repairs are way too costly compared to the rial mechs, one of 2 game i use a trial, cause i aint making money with the one i bought.

ok, so i dont get experience, at this point, i want 4 mech/ 1 per wight division... new engines and better weapons... experience can come later...

guess fun with the owned mechs will have to wait as well.

and the trial mechs, well, ok for the most part, but raven is way too slow... just a notch below the jens without JJ's would be great...

If they are AFK but not 'disconnected' just report them. Take a screencap and send an email to support. They're keeping a list of players who have been reported and if they get reported multiple times steps are going to be taken. Or at least that's what they tell me when I email them.

free will.

the nature of net gaming is that a player is free to do whatever he wants with his time.

you may cajole him, you may insult him, threaten him , bribe him or ignore him, in the end of the day, no one is beholden to another and no matter how persuasive an argument maybe, the player is free to play however he pleases and no one can say otherwise.

if he developer wants to change the rules it is their perogative, however, experience has shown that it will neither benefit the dev to actually try force a player to play. They are better off actually creating an experience worth playing. Think of it this way, there will always be a certain % of griefers who will never, EVER , play as expected. There is however a larger majority who will choose the path of least resistance. It is up to the devs to ensure that the path of least resistance is more inline with the game. Right now,the patch of least resistence is afk farming or suicide farming etc because of the grind put in BY the devs using trial mechs etc is not particularly fun.

problem is, friends reported to me that i appear afk withotu disconnected, when i crash while loading the match.
I understand the issue, but i am sure in the majority of the cases its not the fault of the 'afk'er

There are a LOT of crashes that are to blame for a large amount of the AFKing.

Blame the Devs for going into Open Beta without polishing the game a little bit first, not the players that are suffering from it.

I am suprised that this problem is still happening. I am still baffled by the simple issue of why, if you do not contribute anything worthwhile to the game, and you are in a trial mech, you get any cbills at all.

It seems plainly simple. If you don't do 1 point of damage, or if you don't get a spot assist, or if you don't get a capture assist, you've done nothing useful to contribute to your team. If you've done nothing useful to contribute, you should not get any reward for that.

You don't punish anyone by doing this. People who own their own mechs are apparently able to get some free repairs, so they just chose not to pay for anything. Trial mechs don't have any charges associated with them, so you sure aren't punishing them either.

He's not talking about discons. Like I said in another thread, pretty much every Pug game we roll against has 1-3 dudes AFK sitting in their base after the rest are dead. It's easy to hit tab and see if any of them have disconnected, and most often they're not DC's. Just AFKers ruining the game for Puggsters to make a few cbills.

So which is worse? Premades making the game impossible to enjoy? Or AFKers making a (dis)honest buck?

If you'd read above posts you'd know that the disconnect indicator is unreliable and doesn't always say a player has been disconnected even though they actually have been.

And then there's the crashes, lockups and other glitches.

It's also the PUG Rebellion..When you are on a full pug team and there is an obvious lance of tactically configured mechs (like multiple LRM boats with spotters)..then screw it. Why wait to be Farmed? Quit.
Join the Rebellion..till they STOP Premade vs PUG matching.

After the patch on Tues you're going to see a lot less of this in regard to people doing it on purpose; they won't get any C-Bills for joining a match and disconnecting.
