Would you rather have a Generic Damage Display or a Mech-illustrated Damage Display in Mechwarrior Online?

Generic- All mechs share the same exact damage display.

Mech-Illustrated- Different mechs have an individual damage display.(Ex:Atlas damage display is based on an Atlas)

I would vote for the middle ground. :)

Not a different one for each mech, but neither the same for all mechs. I would like to see a basic differentiation between humanoid and chicken designs, maybe also a class, but I am even happy with the current (all are same) one. ;)

I hope they allow for a display toggle between 2 different modes. Not a fan of the current implementation of the armor/internals display.

In MW4, one's own mech displayed unique damage displays, while enemy mechs were always generic... looking at it that way, I see no reason why unique displays for every mech could not be displayed, though I am willing to wait a few months into the release for them.

They could form part of the sensor... details revealed over time thing - at first generic, and then after several seconds of sensor lock, you can see the mechs unique damage display.

I just hope I can flip the damage display . It always wierds me out looking at the damage display and then having to mentally flip the imagine to match the enemy mech facing me .

That's a pretty good idea; I definitely support this for enemy damage displays.
For our own damage display, I think we should have three options, which we could toggle between at will: Damage display specific to our 'Mech (more detailed, gives us some idea of our hitboxes so we can defend ourselves better), generic damage display (so we don't have to worry about searching for the area we need to know the status of - ideal for people who regularly pilot different 'Mechs, so wouldn't be immediately familiar with their readout), and the HTAL display (giving us the most detailed status updates, at the cost of intuitiveness)

Do you remembrer why Timber Wolf is known as Mad Cat in the Inner Sphere? ;)

So yes, I want mech-specific displays. As a part of "sensor warfare" or whatever - you get a mech-specific display as one of the stages of the target locking.

Nobody who knew what they were doing ever used the self-schematic, because it was just less informative.

Voted Mech specific. Otherwise I'd have to hack a mod in to the datafiles to rep my mech damage readout to look like a raven.

By bar display, you mean the HTAL bar? Of course they will have it as a secondary damage display, but it will be to toggle between the first one.

And the mech-based displays were not "less informative" unless you're talking about the generic based ones. Because with mech-based, they knew what they were doing because different mechs had various shapes and types of weapon racks.

But the "mech-based" mfd's were less informative.

Provided the bar display had a bar for every hitbox - which they always have - there is no real benefit to a schematic display. The only advantage is that it's easy to tell which section is which based on the shape.

As soon as you're familiar enough to remember which bar corresponds to your Mad Cat's left ear, the bar graph is better in every way because it gives you continuous rather than stepped armour information.

As long as I get the HTAL bars, I couldn't care less about the mech-shaped damage indicator.

Not because I find that one gives more information over the other, but because I find the bars easier to read and understand at a glance.

I like what they did in MW4: Allow you to toggle between the outline of the 'Mech for easier referance, and a more detailed bar graph that showed the exact damage done.

Maybe start generic and reslove to mech when the targeting system IDs the mech? This would probarbly help with identification if you can't visually see the mech well. Sure it displays the mechs type/varient code but in combat it can be harder to read than glance at a diagram

I'd have picked "the user should be able to toggle between a damage display in the style of a silhouette of the enemy mech or in the style of a bar graph", but there was no option for that.
