I know B5 is one of the best sci-fi shows ever made, many will tell you that, but almost as many people will also tell you that Season 1 absolutely blows. The acting is cheese and the graphics are aged in the worst possible way. So, for those that have seen it, which episodes in Season 1 can I skip without missing out too much on the storyline?

Give me a "required", "yes", "maybe", "unnessesary", and "hell no" if you can. Or just an X out of 5.

Don't skip it. There are things in the first season that aren't wrapped up until the end of the series. All five seasons constitute a single volume in a story. If you skip part of it the rest will not make any sense. Then you will find yourself going back to the first season anyhow.

Essential Episodes; 1, 6, 8, 12, 13, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 22

Not so Essential but Good for Filler; 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 9, 10, 11, 15, 21

Fell Free to Skip; 12 (TKO), the subplot about Ivanova sitting Shiva is interesting but the main plot is very contrived.

Yes, I was there from the very beginning. CompuServe forums and all.

OMG are you serious? You gotta be joking right?

Babylon 5 is the greatest Sci-fi show ever. From beginning to end, that show had me hooked. Even coming home from work I would watch re-runs before going out and doing anything else. It is how I got my callsign I have used since like 1999, of course it's changed a few times temporarily, but I've always maintained it as my most known name in the gaming world.

http://babylon5.wikia.com/wiki/Anla'Shok explains what it means and the history behind it. Though I altered it to be used on the MSN Gaming Zone (Only allowed up to 11 characters and no extra symbols) so I can add my teams tags. Original spelling Anla'Shock

By far my favorite movie of the series is "In the Beginning" which is about the Terran-Mimbari War, the reason in which the Babylon 5 Station was created. To prevent future wars between alien races and to give them a place to "work out their differences peacefully". I feel skipping out on an episode or more weakens your understanding and knowledge of the main story. Also though some of the acting is cheesy and the graphics dated, remember this show ran between 1993-1998 originally and re-ran later on, on TNT & the Sci-fi networks.

Sorry for the long post, but I love my B5!!!

We all love B5 to me it is still the greatest sci-fi out there but the strongest series are 2, 3 and 4 while 1 has some important plot points for later it suffers a little for cast and crew finding there feet (although i have wonderd if a new syfy remake would work don't hit me!!!!!!!! or something to bring that series graphics a little more up to date) and season 5 almost never happend so stranczynski had to rush plot endings into series 4 and then when got the green light on seres 5 ment that it feels a little disjointed with the metaplot for the rest of the serieses

yeah in the begining is a great movie but i do like a call to arms aswell just a shame crusade did not work well enough. i was really hoping for a reboot with lost tales BTW

Hell no! ofc. Really man, if you think graphic is aged - yes, it is. O_o Babylon-5 is almost 20 years old. Most graphic is the same (except maybe makeup) But seasons 1-4 contain main storyline and you shouldn't skip anythig if you want to keep on the plot.

I wouldn't suggest skipping any of the first season. If you skip S1 you will miss out on Michael O'Hare (CMDR Sinclair) and you will be disconnected from the some of the story later on. Just watch it, learn the characters and the setting and then move on to the heart of the series, seasons 2-4. Then watch S5. After that you can judge for yourself in an honest manner.
That said, having seen the first season a few times, I can honestly say that I skip it nowadays, whereas I will watch S2-4 repeatedly. Even though S1 & S5 pale in comparison to S2-4, there are quite a few great moments, dialogue and performances in every season. It really depends on your interests.

Remeber back when B5 came out it wad one of the first big shows to use heavy CGI. Dated now but so very new back then. Not alot of sci-fi shows had that.

Are there many Sci-Fi shows at all? All I can remeber had place more than 5-10 years ago: Farscape, LEXX, Battlestar Galactica, Firefly, Stargates... Is there something good to watch nowadays?

Unfortunately not really. Stargate Universe had a good two season run, and since then? Not much as been out. Sanctuary is okay, but I could never really get into. The Space/Sci-fi channels have been doing reruns mostly.

Hell no, don't skip anything. I love this series, and even got my wife to get into them when I got them on DVD. Trust me, and everyone else saying the same thing: Don't Skip!

Farscape was a great one too! I didn't like it on it's first run, but on the second run me and the wife got into watching all the re-runs of it and stuck with it. Turns out that was a hell of a series and ranks 5th behind Babylon 5 for me as in Sci-fi shows, Quantum Leap ranks #2 for me. Taking the obvious Star Trek series' out of the ranks, I would say these are my top and most likely to be revisited and re-watched for me.

1. Babylon 5
2. Quantum Leap
3. Alien Nation
4. Earth: The Final Conflict
5. Farscape
6. BattleStar Galactica (before things got too goofy in season 4 in my opinion)
7. Andromeda
8. Sliders
9. V (The original series)
10. The Outer Limits (newest version)

Oh right! Andromeda is another good series. I've also watched all of Farscape I have Andromeda seasons 1-4 on DVD. Still have to get Season 5, although I wasn't a big fan of season 5.
