Ok, what is fun about Mechwarrior? Would be overheating? No? Or would it be the fact that you can customize your mechs and go into battle guns blazing. I would like to see this game do well considering the last ones were mediocre at best.

World of Tanks Pay to Grind

First you need to drop the World of Tanks model of treating new paying customers as food for other players grinding. That creates a frustrating pay to grind system. Refer to Riot games in a general education on this concept.

Trial Mechs

As a Founder I don't have to worry about trial mechs but new players do. Right now LRM's are way overpowered and trial mechs do not have AMS systems (which barely helps) and they overheat easily and are not customizable. There should be some customization with trial mechs and AMS systems should be standard. I know the table top Parker Brother weirdos are going to chime in, but at the end of the day its an online game not a board game. There doesn't have to be full customization but the player should have some. If this is not done, you are making the new player food for LRMs and removing one of the key aspects of the game. You should never choose discomfort over fun factor as a way to try to make people pay to grind.

I disagree here, Trial Mechs are not custom built mechs, but they are far from the heat monsters that some people make them out to be. I quite enjoy playing with the Trial Awesome, it has good heat management when you use chainfire and refrain from Alpha striking every enemy with your laser groups.
On top of that I like using trial mechs when no buddies are around. It makes it less painfull should I get stomped by a premade group and I manage to rake in ~60k (100k with founder bonus) per match. Which imho is quite good, even if I lose.

The matchmaker is the main point to it here. Once that is in place, new players won't be food for the older guys and pre made groups.

At the very least, Trial Mechs should still earn XP.

The way i see it is that something needs to be done. The trial mechs are just not very friendly towards new players.
I'd also like to suggest customization but on a limited scale.
Allow for weapon changes and the adding of AMS and heatsinks. The line should be drawn at selecting other upgrades such as double heatsinks etc.

Allowing new players to ease into the customization process thru the basic modification of the trial mechs can only benefit then game as it stands now.

As I stated in another thread:

I wouldn't be sad if the whole MechLab would go away and everyone had to play with the StockMechs. No more problems with boating, insane hardpoint refitting and such.
But then again, the crying would start, cause no one could build there min/max Mech of NewbieDeath and shortly after that, the game would be dead.

So, there have to be another option.
Why not give every new player the oppurtunity to choose (from) a (couple of) variant(s) from the lightest Mech (that would be the Flea, it won't get much lighter i guess). They own this Mech from that point on, can customize it and earn XP and GXP with it, but also have to repair and rearm the Mech (it just works like every other Mech, except for the selling part). They even may sell it, but don't get c-bills from that.
So, the player can get a grip of the game, fiddle around with the MechLab a bit and eran some XP and GXP. Then they can choose if they want to keep it or sell it to free up garage space, but must choose to convert the earned XP into GXP (which would put some real money in PGIs pockets).
This would only work, if they get the NetCode fixed and LightMechs will fullfill their role and don't be a threat to literally everyone for the lagshield and similiar things.

On the other hand, the TrialMechs can stay as they are right now (little money to earn, no xp, no ammo and repair costs), to give players the oppurtunity to try out other models in different weightclasses, to get a feeling for what they really want to have to play.
But the choosable Variants should be switched every week, not every patch.

Maybe this could be a way to satisfy the new players. It isn't much, mostly like the Loltractor in WoT, but it would be a nice welcome gift and I don't see a big problem why this would interfere with other money-making ideas PGI or IPG have in mind. Probably, it would even get them more money if they get people to lick some blood with the MechLab early on.

This game is beginning to feel like WoT... I have been part of the WoT beta, and I still have an account that I log in to once a month to keep from getting deleted or anything stupid happening, and praying for GOOD features... But that game is going to hell... I pray features come quicker for this game, or even just some fixes to make the game bearable!

Keep the trial rotation
Allow limited customization of mechs with the money they earn, but not allow changes to engine or access to things like ES, FF, XL..etc...
get rid of the win/loss bonus and balance/adjust the Role based rewards

we kill the trial grind issue as well as dangling the carrot, and killing the AFK/Suicide prob at the same time.

DON'T BE WORLD OF TANKS

There is no higher grade of good advice for developers of games on this sort of model. WoT is a grind simulator even for the paying players.
