I was thinking, what if there was a commando hero mech? It could have jump jets, medium lasers with srm2s on the arms and an ac/10 in the center torso and a TAG and NARC on the shoulders. Im not sure if this is a likeable idea though.

Only if they call it "The Troll" and give it 6 gauss rifles.

lol. I'm not that familiar wit hBT lore but, it has to be a mech someone in mechwarrior actually piloted. Not just a made up fan mech, a commando with a ac10 ssrms and mlas will never happen. Doesn't support the tonnage.

I would love a hero commando. Maybe in the future. Sarna.net does mention one special commando, Freyr, but it wouldn't exist at this point in the timeline.

COM-7S2 Commando Freyr - The personal 'Mech of ex-Arcturan Guards member turned treacherous Hunter's Paradise guide Zvi Freyr, his Commando has been extensively modified with both Clan and experimental technologies. Retaining only the Endo Steel chassis and CASE of his formerly stock COM-5S model, Freyr has replaced the standard weapons with lighter Clan-tech systems - two Streak SRM-4 launchers in its right arm with a single ton of reloads for the Streak Missile Launchers in the CASE protected right torso, and a pair of ER Medium Lasers mounted in the left arm. The use of a Small Cockpit and a salvaged Clan extra-light engine save enough weight to switch to double strength heat sinks, as well as carry six jump jets and seven tons of Hardened Armor. BV (2.0) = 1,155 [16]

So basically you want to chuck 18 tons worth of weapons on a mech that weights 25 tons, never mind the heatsinks and ammo? I can't see how that would be a viable mech.

Anyway the Yen-Lo-Wang already exists in the lore so if we would get more hero mechs, it stands to reason that they'd come from the lore too. For the Commando that could be the Commando Freyr:

. However this depends on Clan technology.

The following existing mechs in MWO have custom variants:
  • Atlas: Samsonov (AC/20, 2x PPC), Danielle (more medium lasers, no SRMs), Jurn (HyperVelocity AC/10, Snub Nose PPC, Thunderbolt 15, 2x Light PPC plus some gadgets), Jedra (2x Light Gauss Rifle, 5x Medium laser, 2x SRM4).
  • Awesome: Klatt (minor modifications on AWS-9Q), AWS-9Ma (more gadgets in exchange for some pulse lasers), not very interesting
  • Catapult: Jenny Butterbee (4x SRM6 instead of 2x LRM15)
  • Dragon: Yorioshi (1x Medium Laser, 1x Large Laser, 1x Small Laser, 1x SRM4 and 1x Flamer)
  • Hunchback: Shakir (4H variant, 2x Medium Pulse Lasers instead of 4x Medium Laser), Hohiro (Endo-Steel and Ferro-Fibrous, UAC/10 instead of AC/10, C3 slave)
  • Jenner: Grace (Endo-Steel and Ferro-Fibrous and NARC missile beacon), Grace II (Light PPCs added to the Grace), Samuli (XL engine, Ferro-Fibrous, LRM-15, Medium Lasers)
  • Commando Freyr, see above.

A HeroMech is a Mech from the BT lore, used by some big name in the universe and configured the way he/she used it.
Not a wet dream of a game-designer coming true.

The Yen-Lo-Wang for instance, was used and modified by some guy named Kai Allard Liao (if I remember right), who was on a undercover mission and used the YLW as an Gladiator-Mech in the games on Solaris VII.

So, I guess your idea is not going to happen, there is no such Mech in BT-Lore (afaik) and it wouldn't fit the current "rules" of MW:O.

I was also thinking that a commando would be a good next hero mech. there is a unique variant from the crescent hawk computer game called the blazing inferno. its unique thing is it has LOTS of energy hardpoints and some extra armor. Obviously you can't completely rip it, but if you tweak it a bit (like remove the leg mounted lasers) and give it a good back story I think it would be a great addition. It would be great for the people running with limited MC and Cbills. It will also be a cheaper chassis to "elite" out, as commandos cost about as much as.....a gauss rifle.
