Friendly fire damage/kills should be a subtracted at the end of match. Since we're getting "paid" for damage we did to the enemy, maybe a TK'er should pay the full amount of repair to the team mate he shot? That should stop them pretty quickly

And so unapologetic about it, can you imagine?
Well, more to the point, I've never witnessed a purposeful TK, ever - perhaps they're targeting specific 'Mechs or users...?
Not totally sure but I think they go after commandos, cannon name grognards, and spergs who like to rp as malevolent AI's.

No matter what game it is, you'll always have a few bad apples spoiling the bunch.

Planetside 2 has a clever system in place that locks players guns and vehicles that they drive. They can't fire for a period of time after hitting other players on their side. You have to really go out of your way to do this though. Mechwarrior Online has no such system in place to combat Team Killers and that is why it is going to be an issue in MWO as the server population increases. Pirhana Games needs to find a way to punish TK's,
Very true about the grief system in PS2. However, my original point was that even with a anti-grief system in place, in any F2P game there will always be trolls who make new accounts simply to grief. It's a very difficult problem to combat.

Not sure why I'm not seeing more dual gausses shoot off a friendly light's leg right off the bat, though.

Besides, my teammates (meaning the group I usually play with) have "accidentally" shot me plenty of times, might as well return the favor

Even if the person is AFK, why take the time to kill them your self, let the other time waste there ammo.

There have been a number of friendly hits recently, I may have to remind players that there is friendly fire at the beginning of the match again. Just as when previous beta waves arrived.

Each TK subtracts 15k C-Bills and a roughly equivalent amount of EXP at the end of the match. Personally I think it should be based on the percent damage the player did to his teammate before the actual kill - with fairly minor penalties for an unlucky scratch across an exposed rear torso, and much more significant penalties if he single-handedly cores through a fully-armored backside for the kill shot.
I've never witnessed an intentional TK, but I've seen several accidental ones.

So your telling me that every time I accidently get hit or hit someone in a firefight that it cost them or me 15k?
Friendlies I mean not the enemy.

-15k C-bills. Yeah, found out the hard way. Chain-firing dual ER PPCs at an enemy about 600 away when a teammate in a light, or heavily damaged, or both ran between me and the target. Major "Whoops, sorry..." moment to say the very least.

Interesting idea, TK footing damage bill. At first glance, seems a reasonable deterrent to the fence-sitters without being too punishing on the accidents that will happen, and of course nothing will stop the devoted griefers but they're another critter entirely.
Not sure about the "damage done" part though, on the one hand I see the point and don't disagree, but then in context with all the complaints about economy and new players I'm wondering if it might not be a bit heavy on new players. They're the most likely to spray-n-pray (deliberately or just as part of the learning curve) so I'd expect them to get hit a bit harder.
That, and I wouldn't want to inflict my damage bills on anyone else- I'm used to eating lots of stray LRMs darting around enemies with TAG going. The enemy falls more often than I do, so I just shrug and keep going.

Only kills, not damage. Kill a teammate you lose 15k, they kill you they lose 15k

Something else that has happened to me twice now is where one of my teammates ends up having a red icon for a little bit. It's not where a enemy is behind the teammate. But the teammate is alone and I can target them just like they are the enemy. Of course I shot them on both occasions and got an earful for it.

I have only been team killed once and.....well I knew our gausscat was sniping and I ran right out in front with no back armor ....derp hehe he cant stop it once he looses it.
The second one someone was actively trying to hurt friendlies and well we just turned on him and went on with the match.
