Hey guys, I'd just like some recommendations on what I should try to build on my recently purchased Commando so that it can move quick and lay out some quick burst before getting the heck out.

I was thinking SRMs, but I don't know anything very specific, so if I could get some help that'd be great! (Which engine should I go for, how many SRMs and where should they be placed).

If there are already in-depth guides on how to build a Commando, then pointing me in the right direction would be cool too, thanks.

I'm not a commando pilot myself but I have seen people do really well carrying 3 Streak SRM2s. SRMs of any size also pack a big punch but are much harder to get on target, especially at Commando speeds.

I'd definitely start with streaks if SRMs are your inclination, they're very powerful right now and their lock on makes them easier to pick up if this is your first owned mech. I would also make it top priority after getting the mech to get ahold of an AMS (you should have the weight to spare after swapping SRMs for Streaks) which will help stave off instant death by LRM.

It depends on what you want to do and on what variant of the commando you bought.
While the ssrm 2 is powerfull and does home in, they dont pack the punch of a dumbfire 4 or 6 launcher. Ssrm therfore works well vs other light mechs, but aren't so great against heavier opponents.

If you want to go up against the heavier ones, then the srm launchers are the tool for the job. Just make sure you get behind them and you'll core that back armor in no time. While the srms might be harder to aim, your targets should be big and slow. Get in close and knock them about, then get out. Repeat untill you or they are dead.

I have the xl195 engine on my com-3a, top speed is over 120kph and thats just enough. With 2 ssrm and 2xML you will be doing lot's of damage. Also AMS could be usefull.

Speed and Burst you say? I am going to assume the burst refers to damage in this case.

Firstly get XL Engine 210 in, with the Speed Tweak elite you'll be running 146kph. Then decide what is your chosen prey.

Want to go after big slow moving things? COM-2D with SRM6 in the torso, 2 SRM2s in the arm and some sorta laser in the other arm (maybe TAG if you like running a TAG for your friends). Alternatively COM-1B with SRM6 in the torso and three lasers.
Hunting other scouts/fast light mechs? COM-2D with 3 Streak SRM2s and either a laser or TAG to make your Streaks lock faster.

On top of it all, especially if you're hunting other light mechs, put in some more armor.

I usually run my Commandos like this:

2D: 3xSSRM-2, MPL, XL195, adjust heat sinks and armour to taste. Run as a Striker.
1B: 3xMPL, XL195, 5 extra heat sinks, adjust armour to taste. Run as a Striker.
1D: TAG, LL, 2xSSRM-2, XL195, armour and heat sinks as above. Run as a Scout.

There's plenty of other variations on the Commando, so try to find out what you like and build accordingly.

Without the largest XL engine your Commando is junk. I'd recomment 2-D with 1xMPL and 3xSSRM2. With that kind of speed it would be hard to aim, and SSRM solves the problem. MPL for the extra brawling boost.

Why would it be junk? I have the xl195 engine and I love it. It's fast and there is still room for weapons. Going any bigger would be pointless I think.
