I deleted all sys_spec_*.cfg in CVarGroups_MWO and user.cfg. Set all Low in options.
Then added 1 sys_spec_Shadows.cfg and modified it this way :
Back to 20-30 fps :]

Looks like you have no clue how this things work!
You better leave you fingers from then posting an instruction which I'll not recomend to follow...
An again for the TL;DR noobs: the patch unlocks nearly all cvars for visuals. You MUST fill the user.cfg with visual adjustments - at least with all cvars based on high setting postet here:

With BladeXXL latest user.cfg is OK. I mean game do not crash with Cryengine Error. I can play LRM boat... at least... When standing still, i have nice 40-50FPS, when i move straight 20-30 FPS. Turning and "dancing" with enemy - really nice 9-12 FPS. Unplayable. But it is something!

I apologize for asking, but this thread now contains a lot of conflicting and confusing information because the thread has gone on for so long and things have changed with respect to what works, what doesn't, and what may be a necessary step. It isn't really helped by the fact that a lot of us don't use English as a first language(not being critical of that, it's just the reality and it creates a bit of a communication barrier).
So I was hoping I could just ask straight-off and maybe get an answer as to whether I'm doing this properly. My intention is to run the game at the lowest settings(dual core/hyperthreading i3 530, Rad 5870, 4gigs).
I move the patched files into engine/config.
I paste the info from the various user.cfg that you fellows have posted(I'm not sure which one would be best for lowest-spec, many of them seem to have various high-quality options turned on).
But when I do this, the game actually gets worse, going from 10-25FPS in gameplay down to 5-10. I don't really understand why the performance would decrease when I perform these changes.
Every .cfg in the CVarGroups_MWO directory seems to be set at 3, which I believe are the 'high' settings. Should I be manually turning the 3's in the .cfg's down to 1, or lower?
Is there a particular user.cfg I should be using?
Do I still use the attributes.xml? Do I set sysspec to 0, 1, or -1?
Sorry for having to directly ask like this, I realize it may be a pain to answer, but the game has recently become almost unplayable and I'm tearing my hair out trying to get it to an acceptable framerate. I don't care if it looks like crap, I just want it to run smooth. Any help at all would be appreciated, and thank in advance all.

Colonel, excuse me for write again but it's just to understand the situation clearly. Based on the last patch of 27/11/2012 and using the files on the first post are you positive that there is the same performance increase of 2 patch before ?
Did I have to change something on the attributes.xml ? What's the conf. you suggest for a core 2 e8600 ? My concern is regarding moslty the shadows and the on the icy map the fact that's too bright. Thank you for any suggestion you will post on here, best regards.

Iam new here and this is what I understand about this engine.
Each system have different fps rates with different user.cfg files.
If I see graphical bugs ingame, I did it wrong, some commands are screwed. If in mechlab there is 23-25 fps, I did it wrong, there must be around 40 minimum with full Low settings on my CPU.
Try this files https://rapidshare.c...hv2user_cfg.rar - Its edited Pada and BladeXXL files. Some people said it gave them +5fps and removed stuttering. If game still stutters then try replace user.cfg file with edited fail-safe user.cfg text :

No need to touch the files inside CVarGroups_MWO!
Using the patched files the sys_spec settings in attributes.xml (but Physics) became just dummys!
Your 5870 has 1GB VRAM - I supose. You should try to play with High settings without any modifications.
If it fails, try the Hi-End config!
I don't know much about the Radin drivers, but if there is any setting for computing physics so be sure it is assigned to GPU/VGA/ATI/whatever (NOT CPU)
Anyway: your CPU is realy the lowes one - any chance for upgrade to Quad?
@Angelos Sanguinum:
FPS in mechlab should go to max of your monitor (usual 60 for TFT/LCD).
Having mechlab @ 40 FPS it's worthles to drop into the game - it will be unplayable!

Surely its playable. I was able to squeeze 25 fps with my fail-safe cfg. Shadows and blur are completely off. Textures on medium other settings on Low. Iam even killing people sometimes on my alfa-Hunchie.

You will only need sys_spec_Shadows.cfg installed in proper place (MechWarrior Online\Engine\Config\CVarGroups_MWO) from BladeXXL patch.

I started to play around with the config using the default high settings the basis.
Strangely my cpu (I5-2500K@4ghz) seems to be the bottleneck sometimes: it its at 95% cpu load while the gpu (gtx570) works only at ~50-60% load, when that happens I drop below 30fps.
Perhaps one of the more experienced users could tell me which cvars are especially cpu intensive?
Thanks in advance.

Played to much with the settings? ^^
You should watch your CPU per Core and tell if ALL cores are @ 95% ... usually only one!
how big is your gtx570 VRAM?

The I5-2500k features a Intel® HD Graphics 3000 unit, but it has to be supported by the motherboard, mine does not, because I knew I would never need it when I build my machine, and its definitely not the problem.
I was a oc nut for a long time (can run this one at 5.6ghz stable ), so I know quite a bit about my hardware, all diagnostics imply nominal status on my hardware/software end

This phenomenon occurs with standard game settings, no modifications whatsoever.. it does not happen all the time, mostly I run at 50-60fps with high gpu load and normal cpu load, but there are drops with extreme cpu load (no, I don't mean only one core ) and little gpu load (there are places on river city where I get ~40fps but only ~50%cpu load and 60-70%gpu load).
Vram for the gtx570 is 1280MB (minus a few MB for windows of course).
I've tested on another machine with an older I7 and gtx570 as well, same behavior with same settings (all very high except postprocessing), and I assume it's some bad optimization in the game, thats why I started playing with the configs in the first place.. I created some nice configs for the cry-engine1 when it came out (looked better with way better performance) but I didn't have the time to go through the cvars here yet and I don't really know much about the changes in the latter cryengines, thats why I asked.
ps: pity there is no easy and consistent way to test settings out in mwo , It was great in crysis1 with the benchmark mode and the amazing benchmark utility my buddy created for me.

I wonder if you might be right. I seem to get better visuals & fps seem equal with PGI low vs my custom user.cfg file, custom file seems glitchy.
we really need a smart efficient way to plug values from the custom user.cfg file to nail down better graphics & visuals with quality performance if indeed this is causing us problems.
