A thought, would anyone have an interest in a small program that presented visual sliders, and a layman's description of what each variable did, then created a new user.cfg with your chosen settings? I'm thinking it could save a lot of time.

UPDATE:
- As posted in the patch notes: shadows can be disabled now by moving the Shadows slider to low! Great! :-)
- CPU ussage for core 0 + 2 (Quad) was dropped nearly to the half ... for me from ~60-70% to ~30-40% ... also great! I think duals will run better now.
- VRAM ussage lowered a little - for me from 1000 MB to ~900 MB in avarage.
- less drops during battles

I still have a better performance using the hi-end cfg and my patched files.... and shadows are still FPS killer No.1 ... for me allways disabled!

I'll update (slim down) the main topic when I'm back home again ... have to test the need of the patch first (if user.cfg will still be overridden by sys_spec scripts)

@ Quad Ace
There was already a try by "Atak Snajpera" during the closed beta...
But it wouldn't save time. I'ts a lot of work to figure out the ranges of some of the cvars. Then to program and test the tool. And every user would have to play around with over 30 sliders and checkboxes testing the game after each step... (just 30 checkboxes allow 2^30 = over 1 billion combinations!)
You'll like to play 1 bill. test games... comparing the differences? No way! ^^

I am confused about the Core usage...how can I tell whether my machine utilizes all 4 cores for MW:O, and/or tell it to do so if it doesnt? Is RadeonPro providing a feature for that?

you need a tools like posted at the end of the topic to see utilization.
If you have a quad, you should be able to assign any task in the task manager to cores 0 to 3... if not: you maybe upgraded your system from a dual?

This is my current user.cfg file. keeps shadows on but very low, runs about 20-25 FPS and is very readily playable with no hitching. Is more stable than using PGI low, I dont get the atari bug with this, though I do see it when using PGI low only settings oddly enough.

Spoiler

simple question. why should I as a PLAYER have to make a file work for me that by all rights should be made to work for me by the COMPANY making the game? Same goes for making my joystick work, which, until they sort that crap out, my x52 is sidelined because THEY <PGI> should code in proper joystick support and not me as a player.

I used your CFG file and disabled shadows, since my computer is pushing 7 years old. Puts me at a fairly stable 22-26 fps Anything else you'd recommend shutting of/turning down to improve performance?

Can anyone please share a good CFG for the GTX670, I am only getting 20-30 fps atm with no changes to CFG other than FoV.

@Rejarial Galatan: game is incomplete? PGI is working on? -.-

@Tuku: I think (since chat is not a part of the engine) PGI has to implement a macro for this ... so for now: no chance!

@Strelitzia: GPU is not the answer for all problems! please tell more about the rest of your system
For now the best cfg for you is the hi-end cfg from the main post!

Mine works with a fresh install. Don't think this needs to be done anymore.

Doesn´t need to be done, yes. But you can get better looks for ~same performance with user.cfg´s.
Was running all ingame settings lowest before, ran okay, looked *****.
Now using "A newer one by Colonel Pada Vinson tweaked for Nov. 20th patch" from first page, still running okay, but with some improved visuals.

Might want to try the newest one I just posted burns.

As burns noted, the key here is that default "low" performs better than my custom user.cfg file on low end systems, but for nearly "high" visuals with weaker shadows but using shaders 3, the user.cfg I posted will give you this.
