Do you really enjoy running just optimized builds?

Its a competitive game, so you have to create a setup that works in this competition.
Still I avoid the FOTUM stuff like I avoid the gimped weapons.
Only one exception: recently I createt an LRM spamming atlas (40 LRM + gauss) and can only suggest everybody build LRM boats. The more the crying and (this time justified) calling for a rebalancing emerges in the forum, the faster the weapon with this "hurr I can win games with the brain capacity of a brick" strategy gets rebalanced, the better.

so yes i'm starting to derp around with some non-optimized builds on my jenner and other mechs.
but you need to realize that most people WILL min/max their first and second mech. you can't afford to buy a chassis for a few mill plus fitting only to realize "wow this mech is fun, but makes no money".
you need to have 1-2 non-sucky mechs as backup if on of your experiments fails and getting those 2 mechs will take time for most people.

A trial awesome vs a founders atlas for example is a joke of match making.
So i tend to run the most optimal builds i can afford.
At least if they had a BV based matchmaker i wouldnt feel like im letting my team down for starting the match in a sub optimal mech i have deliberatly nerfed to be cheap to repair just for grinding cbills.

The point of building things is to build things that are better at the shooting things part of the game. I'll never run anything that isn't either optimal, a step on the way to optimal or an experiment designed to find optimal.

as it so happens my favorite build is a slightly modified STOCK design that isn't officially in the game yet. but i can make a close copy of it
mechlab is addictive but it has lost alot of its appeal until you have lots of extra C-bills to burn.

But once I've played enough with it, I hunger for a new build. And if the game is as imbalanced as it is, the options are much more limited than if it was better balanced.

BV doesn't work for mechwarrior games. Equal BV is used in table top to provide balance for unequal mechs controlled by equal teams. MW games are different. One mech should be able to be equal to one mech, because each player can control only one.

It is also totally worthless, since the TT game has a built in crit system. your BV does matter nor does your super pilot sklill if i put a gauss shot into your face or get a crit in a torso or head that takes out a key system. we gave up on BV and tonnage years ago. it arbitrarily makes players take only the best mech loadouts and reduces variety since we never use anything other than stock mechs. the only balancer is the lance strength or clan star trength of the unit. lance V lance or 2 lances V a single clan star.

Had great fun in MW4 getting the mech with the most ballistic hardpoints, then just filling it up with machine gun/heavy machineguns.
I dont get the issue with them, they *SHOULD* have the same DPS as a AC/2. instead you'd need about 10 machine guns to get that level of DPS.
