Everyone has different motivations as has been said - but yes i get bored just running the optomised configs, it is mroe fun trying to make a suboptimal config work sometimes.

However - I see moe an issue that there are such clear optimal configs anyway. At least if they are overused the Devs might see the stats and realise they are not maknig a balanced game?

You would think, but they have stated that they don't have a problem with Gausscats for example. Even though statistically the K2 platform is not being used the way it was designed.

Honestly: no, i don't like it. I have hard times in my Awesome, when try to use the PPC-based (canon) boat. It's simple cannot match the GaussCat (the Cat never overheat, and have longer range than the PPC), even if 20 tons heavier. But that's weapon balance / mech balance problem, not an optimized build problem.

Honestly: yes, i find the original BT / TT weapon loadouts are useless in Mechwarrior game's. Especial, if the enemy's using boats. Take for example the good old Trial Awesome. 2x LRM-15 and 2x Large Laser, plus a Small Laser. Hey, all AWS-8 and all HBK-4 has Small Laser. Who the hell use that? In the BT / TT the MG and Small Laser is a anti-infantry weapon. But in the MWO there is no infantry, so no point to place a half-ton weapon on your Mech...

The main problem is the customisation. It's too easy, but actually many player like it, love it. Even myself. But if the customization become much-much costly, then perhaps you need to consider the option to use mixed weapons. Perhaps...
