This is not an MMO. There will not be a constant world filled with thousands of players.
Other than that, I agree with your post.

I prefer the gauss rifle/ER PPC/LRM weapons any day.
In some of the mech warrior games they made the rate of fire high on the ACs, but that just means you run out of ammo in 20 seconds.

In MWO I can easily see AC/2s being mounted on mechs that range from 25-45 tons. The players who use them will take a few medium lasers for in close and will move around the field harassing people with their long ranged bb gun. Will they kill you? Not likely if you chase them or take cover, but if you just stand in the open they will eventually kill you. And that sure sounds like suppression fire to me. So lets say you chase the guy. He runs away, you are now out of position. Lets say you take cover. He has also gotten you to do something. All that b/c this guy can cripple you with a lowly AC/2. So for those that want to make a go at this weapon it is possible to use it, but you will not be the king of the battlefield. You will be that guy over at the edge of the map who has annoyed a bunch of people. Some will be enemies who are rightly mad at being harassed by you. Others will be friendly mechs who don't agree with this playstyle.
End of the day play w/e you want and have fun.

If they're sticking to TT closely, Just RUNNING will generate heat. So energy based mechs will need to limit their mobility to some degree also.
Also, you know there's going to be some asshatt in a jenner with 6 flamers running around looking for awesomes...

I've never done the mobile heater mech, but I do find it amusing to watch those laserboats slow roasted in their own cockpits because they can't cool off enough to restart XD

Totally disagree with you about the PPC. A Particle cannon fires a charged particle stream, that damages by heat, em interference AND kinetic energy. A PPC fires a frikkin lightning bolt dude! Ever see a bolt of lightning blow a tree in half?

I've seen trees explode from cold, it's far more impressive ^.^
