Totally disagree with you about the PPC. A Particle cannon fires a charged particle stream, that damages by heat, em interference AND kinetic energy. A PPC fires a frikkin lightning bolt dude! Ever see a bolt of lightning blow a tree in half?

Why take a PPC when a large laser is better? Oops wrong thread :)

TT has weapon ROF rules... AC-2's kinda rock at that point (and multiple MG need more then a ton of ammo also) Basicly they fire 4 times for each one PPC shot. I've saw mass AC-2's do well in Mercenaries.. steady stream of shots.. If the ac-2 fires as fast as a ac-10.. then it's a waste.. we can make as many judgements or guesses we want to... but between play styles, personal preferences, and game effects.. the issue will be resolved later.

Uh? Maybe you mean TT does not have ROF rules? That came later when they were trying to balance out real time simulation.

No.. Solaris Arena rules... they cut a turn into 4 segments... and gave "weapon Delays" to the equipment..

PPC has a Delay of 3, meaning you fire it and have to wait three more turns before it's ready to be fired again
AC-2 has a delay of 0

Oh lord. I don't know how many people played with those rules but when you say TT and you mean Solaris Arena Rules you're going to create a lot less confusion if you specify Solaris Arena Rules. or even SAR if that's too long to type.

it's still TT... that's just where the rules for the weapon delays was written. The idea that someone in the Arena would push their mech harder and faster in combat then a soldier (the "reason" for the rules) just seemed stupid to many, why would someone in TV bloodsport be trying harder then someone fighting for their very lives. But i'm rambling. (sorry) yeah.. you would need the Solaris rulebook to know about the TT weapon delays, and TIC, which both were used in the creation of the Mechwarrior video games.

You know what? Yes, AC/2s and AC/5s are lame.

But it's 3049. UACs aren't available until 3057. Rotary ACs in 3062. LB-X/10 is available in 3035 (Lostech) but the other calibers not until '58. (LB-X/20 was, by far, my mostest favoritest weapon from MW4.)

So if you want an AC, AC/2-5-10-20 is it. Period. Have a nice day.

Yeh.. I see what the OP is saying but at the end of the day every thing has a purpose somewhere. Like everything though, you need to weigh up the costs and benefits in relation to your playstyle and the situations you usually find yourself in.. getting hit in the back with an AC2 from out of nowhere.. and then turning to see what it was only to find that the thing that was there has gone silent again is all that is needed for your lancemates to get some nice solid hits from their more powerful gauss or ppc's..
