Have been noticing a lot of hate towards Ravens lately.

My concern is that all you would be doing is reversing the roles. Suddenly the Raven becomes the "correct" choice for light mechs and the jenner is the noob choice.

The Jenner fills a role and fills it well. The only chance for the Raven to be good is to fill a different role. EW is the most sensible choice since thats what it was designed for.

I have all 3 variants of ravens, each with a comfortable set up for me, I have had a ton of fun on my ravens, even though Jenner's are fast etc, every one and their mother plays a jenner because people say it is the best light mech. Personally I don't go by what every one else plays, I go by what I like to play and I learn to be good at it. :D

Others have suggested that Targeting Computers, BAP, GECM, etc... should go into an "EWAR" hardpoint, and while every mech would have 1, certain mechs would have more... it would be much more interesting like this...

correct me if i'm wrong, but everybody is talking of commando with 300... isn't the max engine allowed 210?
i have only the COM 2D, and it go at 136 kph with 210, 2,8 kph less than my 300XL Jenner...

The inferior engine speed to the jenner is the biggest problem.

As far as the modules go, there should be a couple of mechs in each weight class that can utilize them, but not everything. Its not special anymore if any mech can equip it.

IMO, the jenner should be considered a brawling light, and the raven a scouting and electronics light. Pretty much anything that is inferior in engine size or hardpoints should have capabilities to mount special equipment.

This game has scouting?

In my experience everyone just groups up into a gigantic deathball and marches to the enemy base. If it's a Pug they may spread out instead.

Neither option really requires a scout, I also don't trust PGI to not break ECM horribly.

That seems like a elegant solution to the problem. I like it a lot.

As for this thread, pilot what you like to pilot. If you enjoy the Raven that is all the reason you need to ignore the haters and have your fun. The fact that you pilot it to great success (IMO a 2:1 kill ratio on a "scout" mech is fantastic!) is just the cherry on the top.

You like it. It works. What exactly is the problem?

lets remember that ECM is a specialty. not the nerf that MW4 gave us, where it just covered your mech and then only in certain circumstances, but a fairly powerful stealth advantage for not only the scout, but the unit he/she supported. until the advent of more ECM mechs to respond to the Clan threat after the Invasion, the Raven is the only mech we have seen announced that should have it.

unfortunately, since clan mechs can mount it almost universally, i fear we will nerf the Raven now in anticipation of that eventuality. (from sarna: "In the Clans, the Guardian ECM suite was used as the basis for an improved ECM Suite. This system can be found in every Clan's touman. They weigh a single ton, and can be mounted on nearly anything.")
