Mechwarrior 4:Vengeance was a fun game when I had it.I had it with me 8 years ago, I still miss it though.
I always remember saving my sister instead of going after an armory.

What were your favorite memories of the game?

It was a fun game, but it lacked the refinement of MW4: Mercs. The smaller weapon types were very underpowered for Battletech, so the larger variety were the only ones really used. As Glory pointed out, the mechs that got used online were mostly Clan ERLL boats, along with a few LBX, LRM, and LGR boats depending on what the map dictated.

Favorite memory: Being the first among my gaming circles to prove that a light mech could be a viable threat to any Assault. I once got lucky enough during a League match to take on 5:1 odds and *almost* won. Took on 3 heavies in a Cougar on one of the mountain maps (Highlands? the one in the campaign with the downed dropship)... used terrain and passive radar to my advantage... killed two... proudest gaming moment ever.

Would pay almost anything to have a recording of it now :o

Best part of MW4: Vengeance? Being able to stomp around the battlefield in 'Mechs again.

The storyline. I went hunting for a torrent of Vengeance for an entire week JUST to play through the storyline again.

Oh, and DAT INTRO.

Taking a cougar with 3 high explosives and trying to DFA everyone in a MadCat, MKII, and a Diashi. Good times...

You do know you can still play MW4:Mercs for free right? Online is still active if you can get everything working.

I know way more than I ever wanted to know about routers because of this simple sounding statement.

Yeah but online games sucks with all those Gaus+siegelaser+heavylargelaser+thumper boats where you can just leave the game when you come online, with shiny eyes and say proud "I brought only my canon fitted Ice Ferret B!!!"

:edit:
And did I mention all the poptarts who stand behind walls and just fly with their jumpjets a bit bove it to shoot your legs down?

@Oswin: ditto here...esp when i first played it back in High School router stuff is tough for a 16 y/o who only plays on PCs

@Andar get GameRanger and host your own games with a group of friends using canon only varients (not the MW4Mercs stock as those are super OP).

You can try the *PT* Sunder II server. Generally any server that has Force First Person will be absent of the Guass+PPC snipers as they can't exploit 3rd person to see over hills and such.

Its a lot of fun. Usually Eastern Time (US & Canada) 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. weekdays there is a full server going with mission play.

If you are looking for a good server, Smoke Jaguar Reborn has a 24/7 MechWarrior 4 server up. It is force first person and no-respawn. Randomized radar and weather settings, as well as 55 ton max and 75 ton max thrown in here and there.

I love this game however it was quite "slow play" in comparison to Mercernaries :-D. In Mercenaries I loved crawling through Collissuem with 3 times 20 tones Ultra AC20s on my Daishi banging small and mediums on one one shot. I loved also my Cataput, which was usually first heavy mech available in sinle player campaigns... I have no idea why medium lasers were in the game, I never used them. On the other hand Novacat packed fully just with flamers was a good fun :-D.

Chango Ferez's house of pain server where all he ever did was dfa in a catapult with high explosives, and was pretty darn good at it.

And when it comes to mercs4 all you cry babies that shun it because of the few servers with the few jump snipers, you are throwing away a free mech game with now over 100 mechs, over 100 weapons/equipment, 3 each clan and IS infantry, 9 elementals, several styles of play,and100s of maps, plus the ability to host a server the way you want. the game engine is old but a 12v12 slugfest in whatever you want to bring still has a lot of zass.
I do feel your pain though, my favorite is 600 meter weapon restrictions with team only radar so im out in the cold mostly too. but i still love it and have not mastered it.
