What's cool is our daily average number of registrations has always continue to grow and our daily concurrent players has also grown consistently, although it look like a saw tooth. Peak, then gradual fade, new higher peak, gradual fade..

I'll assume this is fact, and until proven otherwise I'm glad.

Just an FYI.. the forum numbers you see at the bottom, do not reflective the true number of registered users. The number seen reflects only players who have elected to visit the forums. It's a nuance of IP Board and the actual game database. The actual registered number of users is much higher.

If you had tracked those numbers since launch you would see spikes and lulls. We've seen many of these since announcing the game last year, Launch, GDC, FNF, CB 1, CB 2, E3, Pax, OB etc. Right now we're seeing levels return to normal non-PR driven levels. When a new announcement/marketing event happens, we spike right back up again.. nature of the beast.

What's cool is our daily average number of registrations has always continued to grow and our daily concurrent players has also grown consistently, although it looks like a saw tooth. Peak, then gradual fade, new higher peak, gradual fade..

It's hard to take anyone from PGI serious, considering PGI still has the failed MW5 as their cover picture for MWO on their website; with the only similarities being the IP. Why don't you guys have anything from the game that is actually being developed?

Kinda a weak cop out don't you think? Not to mention it seems like a typical PGI response; You typed words but didn't really answer the question. As far as I'm concerned it just reinforces my doubts. It shows a lack of professionalism and honestly paints PGI in an even more questionable light considering PGI's website has actually changed since the creation of MWOmercs.com. Now if it's standard procedure for PGI to willingly be deceiving, then by all means disregard this and my previous post.

I'm going to be honest and say that, what makes it hard to take your comments at face value is the lack of any statistical proof to back up your claim. Basically it boils down to the fact that you don't give numbers. You say there are spikes and lulls, but you don't say what they spike to or what they drop to. You say the number at the bottom is false or incorrect but you don't provide the actual true number, instead you tell us to look at the other hand while you make whatever was in the first hand dissappear.

I'm sorry to be rather blunt, but this tactic sums up the whole of your PR and marketing efforts in regards to MW:O, hence why trusting what you say or believing you speak the truth is for the most part hard to do. One only has to look at the 3rd person view issue to see the same type of approach or tactic being applied, Or perhaps Community Warfare or weapon balance or bug fixes or Hero Mechs etc...

There are 405 929 registered accounts for MWO.
Of those accounts, 41 291 have visited the forums at least once since November 1st, 2012.
And 17 045 have visited the forums since November 18th, 2012. (Last week)

As for who is actually playing the game or not... No clue. But I'd ASSUME that anyone who is reading the forums has dropped at least once within the last month or week respectively.

593 unique accounts have registered today.
4512 unique accounts have registered in the past week.

By unique accounts I mean a unique username, not a unique IP or machine address. There's no way in knowing (on my end) how many accounts have the same owner.

So on one hand, atleast 42 thousand people are playing this game, on the other hand...only about 10% of all the accounts created.

That's how many people have visited the site, I'm guessing unique hits. That doesn't filter spam bots and data miners and it's also not an accurate measurement of people playing.

Actually, it does. The search I ran looks at every single registered user on the forums and checks when they last visited the forums. It will only count each individual once, if you visited the forum 500 times in the last 24 hours, you would be counted only once.

And they have to be REGISTERED. So no spiders/bots. Unless someone made a bot that checks the forums for them... Don't know why anyone would do that.

But yeah, no way to know on our end how many people are playing the game at any given time.

So, by your own admission, your data is flawed, thus rendering any of your findings pretty much worthless.

Admit that, edit your original post to represent such clearly, and I might actually take you seriously.

Also, you went in to this study with a pre-conceived outcome. Anyone doing real statistics or using the scientific method knows that's a huge no no when trying to get accurate results. Even if you tried your hardest to not cherry pick data, the human mind is full of subconscious biases that will make you do so anyway, such as your willingness to use a data source that you knew was inaccurate, then post the results as facts anyway.

I love science, but please stop trying to use fancy charts, fancy words, and more to justify things you know little about.

Spambots do register accounts on forums and they will generally register lots and lots of accounts.

@Bryan Ekman

Then what does the number at the bottom represent? The forum account is the player account, so the number of new players equals the number of new accounts?

I didn't have to create a new account for just using this forum?

You can be logged into the game without being logged into the forums. There's no connection between the number of players in-game and number of users on the forums.

@stjobe

I'm not talking about the logged in players, I'm talking about the number of accounts. And, yes, every players also has an account in this forum - it is the same account you use, just two different places to log in.

You can observe how many new players there are by looking at those numbers. But now it is said the numbers are rising, that's opposing to the numbers we see. Just take a look at it for yourself.

In this thread we did nothing else than collecting how many new users joined the MW:O community, so just the users who were newly registered - doesn't say anything about if they even downloaded the client.
