I just wrote up a big rant concerning anti-consumerist tactics popular among the big publishers (EA, Activision, Capcom, etc) and I realized that it was so far off topic that I should just delete it and keep it short and sweet to avoid hijacking the thread.
In short, I feel that we as consumers should support this business model and not go all nerd-rage on the MWO guys if they choose to charge a few bucks for 'mech-pack DLC. A F2P model is about as pro-consumerist as it gets; it's just that we have to understand that these guys aren't doing this just out of the goodness of their own hearts, they *have* to make money to keep the project moving forward.
TF2 makes a butt load off of cosmetic items and items that anyone can get but can pay to get quicker. While TF2 wasn't originally a F2P and built up it's fanbase first, Battletech has a fairly large pre-existing fanbase already. Just because it's pro-consumerist doesn't mean they won't make
any money.

Not quiet correct. In the Mechwarrior 2 imple for Playstation 1, the Tarantula was playable and it was one of the best mechs.
Ah, I was under the impression that it was just an NPC. That's nice to know.
