This has been in all the games and has been very important way for me to manage my Heat .



How will Chainfire be implemented with; Fire weapon, Fire weapon group? –FinnMcKool

[DAVID] Right now chain fire is a lower priority than some of the other stuff we’re working on so, while we hope to have it in for the launch, it has yet to be fully designed.

Please allow the players to switch from chain fire weapon groups , chain fire individual weapons within a group

and make it clear at a glance at the HUD what mode we are in.

I would hope chain fire does make it in but more than that I would hope a weapon can belong to multiple groups.

Lets say for example I wanted to group 2 Medium pulse lasers and 4 small pulse lasers in the following configurations:

Weapon groups:
[1] 2MPLas
[2] 4SPLas
[3] 2MPLas + 4SPLas

Now if this was allowed in addition to being able to chain fire within the groups that is what I would really like to see. I remember back in MW2 I played around with a programmed firing rate to manage heat while in chain fire mode which also helped save my trigger switch since I would just hold the trigger down and the programmed firing rate would be maintained while keeping heat under control. I'd like to be able to do something similar in this game as well.

Just assign weapons to individual groups if you need more control.

I'm almost certain it's been confirmed that weapons can be in multiple groups. If you want to chain-fire, assign the weapons you're chaining to a series of single-weapon groups, and fire through them.

That said a global chain fire should be pretty simple to implement. Group-by-group chain fire is a bit more niche.

It was already announced somewhere that you have 6 groups, each weapon can be assigned to any number of them.

If you wanted to fire 4 medium lasers but not all at once, you could do 2 groups of 2, or you could do a group with 2 and a group with 4. That way so long as you fire the group of 2 first, the group of 4 will have 2 ready weapons when you hit fire. Obviously doing it this way also gives you a 4 at once option.

So, with a bit of thought and a few quick switching weapons groups you should be able to get any behaviour you want, you just might have to work for it.

when you factor in mechs with a lot of weapons and everything from short , long , medium . ranges it becomes more difficult to mange ,

the problem is the Alpha strike happens all to often, heat spikes and you dont know what weapon mode your in , so then we put all the med range in 1 group , short in 1 group, and long in a group , but then you end up shooting your long range missles with your longe range lazers , ....can you see where Im going with this?

Chain fire and a clear way of knowing what mode your in , isnt an option its very important.

The ability to have groups preset to chain or group fire would be great. No one is going to chain fire machine guns, but PPC's are a different story. If I could simply hit the button once to switch groups rather than twice to switch groups then modes, that would be better. Also the abillity to set groups and firing modes before combat is important. Just like Mechwarrior 3. I would even give up the abillity to change them in game if it meant I could alter them before the match.

Why not have both abilities? Before and during. More options is more good. ;)

Chain fire should be the default method, not something to be added at a later date.

At least we now know from the Mech Lab Q&A that we can set up weapon groups in the lab before we drop. That's a start. Chain Fire is certainly useful for heat management, but using hotkeys to toggle between weapon groups set to group fire could give similar results.

If you can work out weapon grouping and timings by fiddling round with you mechs current config. I see no problems with Chain Firing being used as a valid firing/heat management tactic.

Bear in mind that chining thru your lasers say, will limit your reaction with other weapons should a suprise occur...

so whats up with chain fire ? I know it wasnt in the game last time I asked , but its been a bit , is it ready yet ?
or will it be Alpha strike death match ?

I would like to be able to set specific weapon groups to chain fire. So i can be firing pulse lasers in chain fire while im shooting missles like normal at the same time.
