I think Battletech needs more quad designs. As noted, there just aren't enough to choose from to make implementing it worthwhile. I like quads myself, so am kinda frustrated that in canon there are so few combinations of engine and weight to choose from. The only chassis in this time frame with an engine and weight that I know what I'd like to do with is the Goliath, but assault class isn't my first choice anyway.

Well these things are described as being uncomfortable, unwieldily, unreliable and down right expensive to maintain in the time period we'll be in.

If you really want to be piloting something that has a random to chance to stop working whilst simultaneously being a complete hanger queen in upkeep costs. Sure, go right ahead. But don't come crying when the game is released with quads and you're perpetually bankrupt trying to keep one running for any useful length of time.

I would rather see more of the time periods bipedals put in than time being spent making the two available quads work.

I'd love to see a scorpion in my hanger. That mech still makes for some unique and fun strategies in the board game. Quad mechs did feature pretty heavily in original fiction, but kind of faded after the Golaith got marked as unseen. It would be nice to pilot something that would force other players to change their tactics a bit.

Quads would be awesome, I'd love to pilot a Barghest one day, one of my favorite mechs ever.
But I fear MWO will have the same response as any other team before that did a MechWarrior.
To hard, not worth the effort, would be useless compared to bipedal mechs, bla bla bla... :)

I doubt its worth it for them to do all the leg-work (heh) to put them in at launch for just two models. I could see them adding quads later though when there are enough of the new clan and later inner-sphere models in the time-line.

I love quads and would pick the scorpion with jump jets any day over anything else

I would say "Hell NO!" The quads are, to me, dumb looking, dumb idea, just dumb.

But seeing as the 'mechs are being redesigned anyway, and the artist is pretty much a badass, I think I wouldn't mind some quads.

I don't think we'll see them though, they're too different to account for and pretty rare anyway.

Funnily enough feor you posted a picture of a barghest then left it off your list of IS designed quads.(no insult or slight intended just a bit funny :)) I'd love to see some quad action as the barghest is one of my favorite mechs out there. Yes I do realize that it wouldn't be around at launch since I don't think it showed up till the 3060s. I'm all for as many flavors of giant stompy robot action as they can cram in.
....
Not that I would pilot something other than my exterminator....

They are, in my eyes, the equivalent of TD's in World of Tanks.
So if this engine is similar to that, then it would be easy to implement.

Okay, this I've got to hear. How are quads the BT equivalent to Tank Destroyers?

Yes please. They certainly won't dominate the game, but will add some flavor and variety.

The ones I listed would be the ones available in 3049 (when the game launches), and for the clans the ones that would already exist when they begin their invasion. The Barghest won't show up for almost 10 years after MWO launches. :)

aha! I see I see. Yes my mild obsession with the barghest blinds me to simple things such as dates and timelines. Well hopefully they cram quads and exterminators into the game. Now that would be perfection.

I think quads could be quite flavorful, especially with the redesigns going on.

Huge Frontal Armor, thin on the rear, sides in between, no turnable turret/torso, terrible firepower in the front-arc, none to the sides or rear.

I like the idea of quads in a 3015ish game, but an online 3048ish just doesn't seem right. They've been almost non-existent in previous books and games (if anyone can tell me anything they've appeared in, yell out), so it would seem strange jumping into a MWO game and having 5 of them running around.

Tarantula appeared as controllable in MW2 multiplayer. That's the only one I can think of.

Okay, that I could see. I might debate you that all `Mechs have terrible armor on the rear and huge frontal armor, but you make a good point about the lack of the ability to torso twist. I've used the Goliath and Scorpion both and have to admit that the Goliath is the only one that I really consider a decent design due to it's weapon payload. A quad absolutely has to have long ranged weapons to offset the torso twist disadvantage.
