There arn't many Quad 'Mechs about in 3049 (I'm fairly sure theres only a couple of designs) and the layout is universally unpopular throughout the various factions during the time period we're looking at (at least initially). I'd be surprised if they're seen ingame at release, to be honest.

They are, in my eyes, the equivalent of TD's in World of Tanks.
So if this engine is similar to that, then it would be easy to implement.

The 80 ton Goliath has the armor of an Atlas and decent long range capabilities, even if as a whole it does seem a little light on firepower for its weight, in the form of a PPC and a pair of LRM-10s. The 55 ton Scorpion with its SRM-6 and PPC combined with its speed is my preferred level 1 tech quad, although to be honest, the later Fire Scorpion and Fire Scorpion II are some of my favorite Mechs, right up there with the Adder Prime and Phoenix Hawk LAM-HK2.

Not to mention that when the clans come we might see some of Clan Hell's Horses' quad mechs, like their totem mech.

Also, we need Quad Mechs for the Elements of Death and Destruction Clan.

Id love to see them, but I'm not holding my breath. Lots of extra rules and work under the hood to make 4 legs work well.

I actually like quads- they're more "tanky" than regular 'Mechs, but often have some nice advantages like a lower profile or the ability to pack on a bit more armor than a biped thanks to their chassis. And being able to laterally shift quickly is nice when you want to scoot out from a corner, blast something, and just keep right on sidestepping it to the other side quick-like.

The lovely 80 ton Goliath is also a True Unseen. It's from Dougram instead of Harmony Gold and will probably not be making a come back :)

Edit: I guess I'm the only one sad about losing the original art.

Aren't there only two in 3050 anyway? Scorpion and Goliath?

The Scorpion was originally built in 2570, so it did exist but the plans were lost I'm sure sometime well before 3049. The plans do resurface around 3065 though. I doubt we will see it.

I don't know about the Goliath. It was a rare 'Mech to see before the 3060's so we may see it or we may not.

the spider-legged and dog-like quads, yes please

the goliath or sirrocco types, BLEH!

quads i think are interesting because oddly enough, they would probably handle, controlwise, a lot like your average FPS character, only with more momentum by several orders of magnitude.

namely because unless they are specifically mounting a turret, quads can't torso twist, they strafe and turn their entire bodies to aim. Though for the sake of gameplay, their weapons probably ought to have a bit of wiggle room by default to pitch up and down and a bit to the left and right.

Packing on that extra armor is for the coverage of the front legs. You cannot increase the torso armor beyond the normal limits, so quads in general are less efficient.

Well they sound like fun...then again I don't know if it would be entertaining to stomp around the map in such a monster, but that's only my biased view :)

I never have been a fan of the 4 leg designs so I really hope they put other battlemechs in the game before them.

AT ATs were so stupid, yeah lets make an infantry transport that can only fire in one direction, is too high off the ground to effectively deploy infantry, and is balanced on these tall thin legs that seem to have little to no ability to compensate to their circumstances or really having any maneuverability at all.

but then again the majority of star wars vehicles.are pretty retarded

i mean come ON Posted Image
