PGI either has a sick sense of humor, or buffs are coming. ;)

After they did what they did to make the AC2 useful, I am still hopeful that MGs might someday be more than something which takes up space on Trial Mechs. Keep your fingers crossed!

Coupled with the "internal dies in one hit" bug one might actually drop some guys with that bad boy now. :D

Tested this with a good friend last night.

He opened up into my unarmored center torso with a single machine gun until it killed me.
It took around 1000 rounds and it was shown mathematically that I died from loss of structure right when I was supposed to. I did not die earlier than expected from crits.

They do not crit.

The reason machine guns suck, even against sections without armor, is that a crit just lets you deal the damage of that weapon against a component (with a multiplier attached iirc.) So if you hit an internal with an ac/5 round with a crit, the ac/5 round does enough damage to actually destroy the thing it crits. A machine gun round, even on a crit, doesn't do enough damage to destroy whatever you got lucky enough to hit with your crit, so while it generates more crits those crits actually don't end up doing anything. Instead of one crit big enough to actually destroy a component, you just get a bunch of tiny crits that are spread out over many components, so unless you're using MGs on an AC/20 or something, you're not going to knock anything out.

AC/2 rounds actually do enough damage to destroy components on crits, and are the best crit-seeking weapon right now thanks to their high rate of fire. I get a lot of 'component destroyed' when I wield multiple AC/2s.
