I created a poll on this once before, but since they screweed up the search function, I am unable to find it again. So I am making a new one.

This issue has been around a very long time, and I have yet to see Devs make any statement about the scale of future maps. They did make one Q/A once saying that they are making a much bigger map, but the map they were speaking of was caustic valley. And even that map is too small.

Now they are just refurbishing current maps and that is just pathetic IMO

If you want bigger maps, let your voice be heard now. Vote.

I will keep this topic bumped everyday so everyone will see it and get their votes in.

Edit: Bryan E. has reply to this topic - "Larger maps are coming. Alpine and Desert are both 2+x the size of caustic. So fret not. "

I want bigger maps, but only if we get 12 v 12 in.

I would like to see larger games in general. More players, bigger maps. I would be incredible if they could get 16v16 going sometime down the line on giant maps that actually required roles to be fleshed out.

Current maps are fine for 8v8. For 12v12 there would need to be bigger maps. (I assume the current maps would work too, but would be a bit crowded I think).

Current ones are fine for assault mode. making them bigger wouldn't do anything except making matches longer (more walking to get to the fight) and making capping a more powerful option, neither of which are good for gameplay. Can't say anything about other modes yet.

I want a variety. Part of why you see so much boating is because all the current maps are similar enough to favor specific weapons, so people load up on those. If some maps are big with almost no cover and some are small urban locales it would help encourage a varied loadout as you never know where you'll drop next.

Exactly. More players, bigger maps. Imagine frozen city with 24 people on there.. Games would be 2 minutes!

With these tiny maps, yes 12vs12 would just be stupid. No tactics whatsoever.

I think the maps are too small for 8v8. Doubled or x1.5 I think would be better. Also would love to see huge maps with more players. I'm hoping community warfare thing would be huge maps and around atleast 20v20 though I'm sorta doubting it will happen :P

I wouldn't mind even smaller map than we have here. But I also want huge map. I want diversity.

Consider 12vs12. With assault mode. If maps were bigger capping wont be a better option, but having a defending force will be. Because the only ones going for a cap will be faster mechs. Unless the whole team is fast only going for cap, if the maps were bigger, your scouts would have an easier time spotting said tactic, and your team having more time to react to it.

Because right now... whole team base rushing is a hard to beat tactic. One reason is they dont have very far to go to get to enemy base. Ive seen some teams do this and its hard to stop it, and even my team does it sometimes. You run straight to enemy base, turn your torso to shoot at enemy. Some of you might get caught up having to play defensive to stay alive but everyone else will cap the base easy. We have done it several times, with 8man premades.

Honestly this game should still be in closed beta, we all know they have a crapton of features to add to the game still to really be open to the public.

For an 8 vs 8 format, the maps are good as they are. If the maps were bigger, people would wander off all over the place. As it is now, a lot of matches end in a base rush cap. With larger maps, that would be more of an issue as well.

If match sizes increase (say 12 vs 12), then I would want the maps a bit larger. If we stay at 8 vs 8, I think the current map size is ideal.

Explain how you think having bigger maps would make all matches end in base rushes. Because the biggest map we have now is caustic... and base rushes happen much less on that map than on frozen city, which is smaller.

Wheres your proof? Im quite skeptical of PGI's idea of "bigger" based on what we have seen so far.

New maps are hidden in the game files. One is "desert" and is about 50% bigger than caustic and one is "alpine" that's about twice as big. The alpine one has 5 different dots spread out on it. capture points for new game mode?

Odd, I don't remember saying all matches...huh.

My reasoning anyway is as follows. Bigger maps mean it is easier to move along the edges and around cover to stay hidden. Just makes rushing harder to detect.

Also, if a light or two gets to your base in a larger map and starts to cap, your team might have a lot more distance to cover to get back to base and defend. Most times people tend to move away from the base (about half way to the center of the map) and take up positions where they can fire off some shots and use cover, this leaves them farther from their base on a larger map.

I suppose they could make maps larger but funnel people towards pinch points to help prevent this, but I bet if they did, people would claim the map was too small because they couldn't free roam as far.

To me, the maps seem good as they are for an 8 vs 8. You can get back in time to stop a base cap (unless it is a full on rush). From many places in the current maps, you can detect movements and report to your team even at the out skirts of the play field. There is still places to hide and sneak as a scout. I am just saying that IMO it seems good the way it is.

Are all the alternate maps going to be reskins like the brand new Forest Colony or will there actually be new ones? Will any of these be at night time to finally make use of night vision.[/color]

BryanEkman @Butane9000 yesterday
There will be more alternates and new maps. Desert is the next up, scheduled to go live December 18th

I voted for 2x but:

1) I adore the current map sizes. Great "deathmatch" maps.
2) I want larger objective based maps (with things like nuetral ammo dumps to capture/use!) for 16v16 eventually.

I know development takes time... great stuff so far as a new player.
