Turns out, the little sucker can do some nice damage.
The lrm, instead of being used for any sort of long range shenanigans, is more used as a long range ssrm 2. While chasing mechs or circling mechs that are a ways away, the lrm5 adds a little extra damage with the lasers, and if you can get close enough, the srm4 can dish out a little hurt. or, if you are chasing a mech that is slightly faster than you, then you will still be able to hit them with the lrm5. Also, the lrm5 and the srm4 work to counterbalance each other: if you can't fire one, you could probably fire the other. The only downside is that it will run a little hot when firing everything.
Here's the nice thing:
range > 270m: lrm5
270m>range> ~180m: lrm5+2ML
range<~180m: 2ML+srm4 (better if closer, but still)
So I can effectively attack at ALL ranges.

-5 HS in structure
-2 ML
-1srm4 w/ 1 ton ammo
-1lrm5 w/ 1 ton ammo
-no upgrades
