How hard is it to implement:

-Players that at the end of a match have a total of 0 damage receive no credits or benefits.

Wouldn't that solve this AFK plague?

best regards.

No, one could be a dedicated spotter, particularly when we get the rest of the cool tools and bigger maps. Now if they did NOTHING at all to earn xp or do damage, then you might be on to something.

Pfft I like scouting sometimes and I get 0 damage because I stand behind them and put TAG on... so I should be punished for that??

Need another way.. like maybe an in game report button... if a certain number of people report for AFK no money and after a certain number of times reported temp ban..

Also would be too easy to avoid 0 damage, just go out shoot at a couple mechs and go park AFK ;)

it´s always THAT easy at the first thought...but if it really was, PGI would do it ;)

How about, if the mouse doesn't move for 40 seconds or so, you get kicked.

I think the mouse is grabbed from hardware so the only way to fake it would be a custom mouse driver. Or a machine that moves the mouse I guess.

You could get a warning, ten seconds in advance just saying move your mouse please.

You still get afk'ers that only move a little. I have been in at least two matched with two afk'ers on one side.

I agree they need smarter detection, and punishment for non-effort.

I happend to have a zero damage (I died before I could line up my weapons properly) and zero spotting (no use, as the enemy was in the cave on forest colony) fight, just yesterday.

I didn't contribute in any gameplay performance, but due to my warning, my comrades could deal with the thread, that would otherwise have flanked them and engaged them from the front and the back, cutting them to pieces. Because of my information, my team fell back and engaged the flankers first and annihalated them and then went after the rest, winning the match by a landslide.

If that "simple" solution were in place, I wouldn't have gotten anything from the fight, even though my untimely death proved usefull in the end.

make it keybased. If one didnt input key commands its an AFKer.

The mouse/keyboard inputs in Windows are purposely allowed to be automated at the OS level. There are several Windows APIs to allow emulation of input (which appears identical to legitimate input to the receiving program), and barring that someone can send raw mouse movement messages directly to the message loop (game window) that is being monitored for such messages.

A driver based system or some other kernel based system would a.) be a pain in the *** to create and maintain and b.) be incompatible with all sorts of stuff

the easiest system is... report AFK'ers... one off report won't do anything, but lots of reports will get them looking at the account and lead to a possible ban... that player will probably create a new account and come back as a TKer out of spite but eventually they'll get bored and leave entirely

I cringed a little bit when I saw PGI had included x,y,z coordinates in the F9 display. If hackers didn't have the info already, they now have it handed to them on a silver platter....a big piece of the puzzle on how to create bots that can navigate the map and/or follow rails.

Figuring out how the coordinates are set in a game is just a matter of trial and error. If PGI didn't add this they would have found out anyway.

I agree. Only pro of a custom filter driver is being nearly undetectable.

Also, for b.), you can pass all normal messages to the default handler of the OS, so everything else works as normal.

I am sure there is an easy way..... for capturing the behavior of a bot.

Random movements is something you cannot guague, however random movements, no hits, and no responses within in game chat? Surely must be a bot.

The must be a formula for near complete accuracy.

Developers of other games have spent ENORMOUS amounts of time and money trying to detect bot systems and failing.

The hackers just keep making better bots.

Simple solution to the fears from the scouts.

Anyone with 0 bonuses, which you get from kills, damage, assists, or spotting get no XP or c-bill rewards for any match.

That means that no one who doesn't hit R to target, assist in a kill or get one themselves receives any rewards from the match

Yea, having it based on no damage would screw scouts who concentrate on TAGging and spotting, capping etc...

No XP worthy events might be a start.

Stop Hazing and Start Raising...

I have recommended

remove win/loss rewards
Balance out and weight the rewards for role
allow trial mechs to customize with Level 1 tech

this should help alleviate the Grind and AFK syndrome to certain extent

Worst idea I've heard all day. You sir, would destroy this game. Think I'm just a whiner, check my stats (Don't even know if you can do that).
