I was grinding out 3 jenners simultaneously because of the poor system PGI has in place which essentially forces you to play 3 of the same mech at a time if you want to advance, and I maxed one out, got mastery. I then sold it, as I don't want 3 jenners. As soon as I sold it all the XP I had under pilot lab disappeared.

My question is did I instantly forget how to drive this mech once I sold it, and if I buy it back will I have to grind through all the skills from scratch. Also...since the XP is gone and they all say 0/8 wtc can I get mastery on the others? Only the mastery box from the sold mech indicates that it is still researched...

Edit: Just wanted to update this thread. I was able to purchase mastery on the other variants, but it did not add the module slot as it was supposed to. I had to rebuy the variant I sold (which retained all the XP i had previous to selling) and then I was granted the extra module slot that I was supposed to recieve. Seems like a bug, I hope so...was an expensive test to figure this out

2nd UPDATE: So, to sum things up:
1)If you sell a mech variant that you have elited, it will still count towards your 3 "elite" requirement mechs for obtaining mastery
2)It will retain all XP gained, though it may appear as some disappeared
3)If you obtain mastery on a variant AFTER you have sold one of the other two elite variants, you will not recieve your module slot - This can be solved by re-logging. (or rebuying the variant :))

This is all based on my own testing and correspondance with MWO support.

Cheers

your exp stays even after you sell the mech. you just can't use it until you buy the mech again, but if you do buy it again, all the xp you earned on it is still there

likewise it should keep track of all the things you unlocked, though keep in mind if you got 8/8 on three variants, you'll then see 0/4 on all three now that you're on elite tier, etc

if it says 0/8 after you unlock it, it's a bug. restart your client. fi that doesn't work contact support

I dunno man, I spent all my Closed Beta time trying out various mechs and specific builds, not fooling around with grinding XP over and over on the same chassis, because it all would get wiped.

For all I knew, the XP system as it was, wasn't even finalized -- there were a lot of threads suggesting it be completely scraped.

What p00k said.

If you grind up mxp on a variant that you want to sell, you gotta spend MC to transfer the mxp to gxp, or it sits in limbo on a variant you no longer own.

Likewise, if you sell the mech with MXP stored on it, and effeciencies unlocked, you get them all back when you re-purchase the mech.

When there was a big reset (referring to the reset just before the OB reset), but then they refunded our monies and XP from a certain date, I repurchased a few mechs I had no intention of using just to harvest the MXP, then re-sold them. That was closed beta though, and as a result of the reset I had a few variants sitting on 20k mxp that I wasn't going to use along with 100 mil or so banked - don't believe I'll ever be in that position again. ;)

The system is clunky, but it doesn't abjectly cheat you out of mxp/unlocks unless there is a bug.

So wait - to get mastery/elite bonuses we have to keep all three chassis?

Send a support ticket, hopefully can get the CB back that I had to spend to find out how this system is broken. At least hopefully they think it is broken and not working as intended...

My impression is that you have to keep all three chassis until the tree is completed. Then you can sell one or two chassis without losing the bonuses. You will need at least one of the mastered chassis to maintain the bonus, though.

it would really be nice to know how it all works. having the mech (a material posession) is different than having the skills, which should not go away. things can be bought or sold, but skills should stay. i should not have to hold onto a mech to continue my progression towards mastery and elite oncei have completely learned/paid for all the skills on it and am moving on to the next.

What I'm curious about is the wording on the mastery bonus. The elite unlock specifically says '3 variants of this chassis' but mastery says something like '3 variants of this weight class'. I have 3 Catapults with all Elite efficiencies active, so does this mean I'll only need to get the basic efficiencies on 3 Cataphracts and then once I max out the elite bonuses on one I'll be able to work toward the module slot?

This kind of thing was nearly impossible to test out when I played in CB because experience gains were so low. I'm not sure when they adjusted them to be what they are now but it's much faster.

When you first unlock the master skill, sometimes you have to restart the client to get the extra module slot to show up.

So you have to not just do the base level, but elite level as well in each variant?

IE

8/8-8/8-8/8, 8/8-8/8-8/8, 8/8-8/8-8/8
4/4-4/4-4/4, 4/4-4/4-4/4,4/4-4/4-4/4
1/1 wherever you want it.

that means you either rebuy mechs like crazy or buy a whole lot of mechbays. bah.
