Some admin type should sticky a thread (we'll call it something catchy, like: Unseen - The Mechs That Will Never Be Seen In MW:O) listing all the Mechs that due to licensing issues will never appear in MechWarrior:Online. That way people can stop asking for them. :)

Here's a (mostly) complete list:

Archer
BattleMaster
Crusader
Galleon
Goliath
Leopard
Locust
Locust IIC
Longbow
Marauder
Marauder II
Ostol
Ostscout
Ostsol
Phoenix Hawk
Phoenix Hawk LAM
Rifleman
Samurai
Scorpion
Shadow Hawk
Sparrowhawk
Stinger
Stinger LAM
Stone Rhino (Behemoth)
Super Wasp
Thunderbolt
Valkyrie
Warhammer
Wasp
Wasp LAM
Wolverine

You'd be incorrect since Paul stated that there was nothing preventing them from doing the Unseen since the art would have to change and avoid HG's gaze.

Which begs the question... why have they avoided them so far?

HG Only has the Robotech based ones.
Things like the ShadowHawk and Griffin should be available

Not a high priority? I don't know why they have done them. All I know is that they can do the Unseen with new art or they can take HG to court for holding an invalid license in regards to the mech and character designs from the mechs that appeared in Robotech.

If that is true, then why on earth are they doing relatively unpopular mechs like the Cicada instead of widely popular mechs like the Shadow Hawk and Griffin ???

Could you post a URL to this information?

Here's the quote:

FlyingDebris IS doing an awesome great job at redefining the looks of the classic Mechs. When it comes to the unseen/reseen designs, there is always the question of legal matters. No, we don’t need to go pointing fingers at anyone but it’s the reality of the situation. Our fearless leaders Russ and Bryan would be the only ones to be able to make the call on the inclusion of those Mechs. There’s nothing really technical keeping us from including them, it’s a matter of making sure the variant/chassis we come up with is worth the time and money needed to invest in getting them done.

So... about that Leopard-class DropShip in the concept art section...
Posted Image
... the DropShip that is originally based on the Starship Minerva from Crusher Joe (the same source as the Locust BattleMech and the Galleon tank, among others)...

I would very much love to see the Locust join MW:O, even if I wouldn't particularly like to pilot one :)

I think FD has proven that he's more than capable of handling any mech design so 100% original FD Unseen designs would probably more than welcome at this point in time even if they look nothing like the original Unseen.

Shadow Hawk, Phoenix Hawk, and Marauder are my 3 favs. NOT because they arein Robotech etc... they are jus very cool mechs.

That whole copyright thing is a huge deal... so probably won't see Phoneix Hawk or Marauder, just my guess. No need to risk it. Shadow Hawk... should make it. I HOPE!

The thing about these 3 mechs is the WEAPONS were the right size, very large and long. Phoenix Hawk does not need to transform if it were in the game.

They could keep the name, but they couldn't look the same so...

They need to make them "inspired" by.

I know it's all been said many times but to add my voice to the cause... I hope they can find a way. Especially the Shadowhawk, my personal favourite. The reseen Shadowhawk might as well be a different mech.

Panther
Wolfhound
Shadowhawk
Griffin
Wolverine
Warhammer
Thunderbolt
Rifleman
Battlemaster
Zeus

Please.

Who is your dealer again?

Those ships look NOTHING like each other.

NOTHING.

The kotaku interview (much more recent) said they don't have the rights and do not want to risk legal action from HG...

I have a fond spot in my heart for the Locust. Always reminded me of the Scout Walkers (AT-ST) from Star Wars.

It is only slightly more evident from the original Leopard artwork:

Other than that, take it up with several different sources (here, here, and here).
That the Leopard is based on the Minerva is fairly-common knowledge; run a search on "Crusher Joe BattleTech Leopard" and have a look at the results. :(

The point being: the Leopard's reveal gives us an Unseen in MWO! ;)

Thats stretching it, but I suppose if the "rereseen" "vaguely" look like the unseen, it would be "ok"

Crusher Joe Minerva:

MWO Leopard-class dropship

While I'm not sure that you could say that the Minerva is the Leopard (they definitely changed the hull/fuselage, where they didn't make any significant changes like that in the other art from Crusher Joe), you can definitely see some similarities in the cockpit design and thruster layout. (I'd actually even say the art style as well).

However, if they make changes for the Unseen that correlate to the changes seen in the original Leopard designs and MWO's design, I believe we can have 'mechs that are both different enough to be called their own design and still be familiar enough that we (fans) can say it's still true to the heart of original design.

Perhaps. But they suffer from the same problem that Commandos suffer from: not enough tonnage. They don't have enough mass to have a really survivable combination of speed, armour and firepower. The "sweet spot" is 35-45 tonne.
