I think I heard people saying that this is a bug, and that it will be fixed, sooner or later

Am I the only one that, instead, likes the chat as it is?

My reasoning is that it gives a small equalizer to people that don't voice chat/aren't grouped together and in the end makes spectating games funnier

your thoughts?

well, i would go for dead people not able to talk, but as you mentioned: This would mean an even bigger advantage to People on Voice, so just leave it as it is, but give us the option to ignore specific players

It doesn't really matter for this game, but it's pretty standard practice to not let dead players give information to their teammates.

chatting after death is fine....since many many ppl use teamspeak anyhow, removing it would not make much sense.

Being able to talk to the other team while dead is probably not a great idea. As it allows your teammates to spectate you and rat you out. Even if you are not doing anything wrong.

Being able to talk to your own living teammates when dead is fine in my opinion. Because any restrictions there are easily circumvented by voice chat.

It's unlikely that people on opposite teams are going to be on the same voice chat in which case they can talk about the other team regardless of any restrictions so it's kind of a moot point.

So in short. Talking to your own team while dead. Good. Talking to other team while dead. Bad.

Well, it kind of takes away some of the tactics involved in finding enemies, but it has to stay "as is" due to the advantage VOIP users will get.

I could see locking ALL chat for dead users, but we need the ability to chat end round if that ends up being the case. Some people like to congratulate others on a well played game and you wouldn't be able to do it if you were dead.

A lot of people use voice anyways, so it's pointless to clamp down on in-game chat.

I think it would only be a problem if you could spec the enemy team and find out where they were. ghosting bad.

Until out of beta stage being able to chat while dead is almost a must. At the very least you can attempt to help the newer players you are spectating learn some basic functions and tactics. Aiming, grouping, using the r key, constantly staying zoomed in, squirrel chasing, using thermal vision. Good helpful tips if they listen, and it is just a lot better, right now not that much is said that would be of any real use anyway.

I think in game chat when dead is a good thing but not in a competitive environment. For example tournaments should not allow commentary from dead players in any form. Normal matches however it is very useful for new players to recieve advice when they are doing bad things like shooting weapons outside of thier range, not shooting weapons in groupings, not turning efficiently, not using targeting 'r', or simply making unsound tactical decisions. Not excessively but it definately helps players who are learning the game. If you want more people to be playing MWO keep the game chat for that reason.

personally, I only relay info that I gained while I was alive. This is for voice chat only though, I tend not to take the time to type out stuff. That said, there should be some system to keep dead players from relaying info to live players, regardless of what form that info takes.

I think it's fine as is. I don't get to ask questions until I'm dead or most their team is.

Edit: As someone above said, in tournies it should be off. Maybe 8 premades also, as voice comms is a given in that state.

Edit2: Spelling

Play it like ultima online and allow dead players to talk to whoever they want, but other players will only see it as "OOOOOooooooOO".

XD

I think it's fine, but I think the ability for dead teammates to talk to ALL players should be removed. I can see that being abused heavily.

Dead is dead. Let them speak to other ghosts, but leave the living alone.

... or, at the very least, like some of the others stated. Let them speak to their team only.

They'd have to remove the spectate system all together if you wanted dead players to not give live players any advice whats-so-ever. With any kind of spectate system information is going to get passed. It's a fact of life. You can't stop everyone and if you do it for in-game chat only than those on VOIP are going to be even better off than they are now. You can't stop people from using third party apps during a game. At least not and hope to keep any kind of customer base.

I cant think of any plausible reason you'd restrict dead chat at all that cant be solved with an in game report system.

Since there's no way to prevent chatting via 3rd party stuff might as well leave it in.

I totally agree with this one.
