If I want to travel from one end of the galaxy to another, I'll have to wait 2 weeks or more?

I appreciate some people are well into their immersion and would like a realistic experience, but come on that's taking it a little far.

As for MW:O, where day-to-day means day-to-day, I doubt many people would sign on with a game that lets you play for about 20 minutes or so before making you wait several weeks before you can play again.

IN REAL TIME!?!?!?!?!?
One of the reasons iron Grip Marauders sucked so bad was because they used real time! The fact that I had to sit for half an hour (at LEAST) waiting for my tank division to be reconstructed was AWFUL! If you have to wait for your mech to be repaired or your new weapons to arrive, it's torture! FREAKING. TORTURE. I may be able to read White Dwarf and Nintendo Power while i wait, but i won't log on to read. I'll log on for some mech vs. mech action, not waiting!
PLEASE! PLEASE! PIRAHNA GAMES! MAKE IT NOT REAL TIME! OR AT LEAST MAKE IT ONLY PARTIALLY REAL TIME! I BEG OF YOU!
I guess some real time elements would be cool, maybe. Like seeing what big and interesting battles are going on at the exact same moment as you are bored. (Wait, is that a real time element?) I really can't think of any other cool way to implement real time, but good god, don't make us wait for such trivial things!

There is no actual pilot that is 'you'- rather, if you are fighting on different sides of the innersphere, you are two distinct people.

I think you're placing too much emphasis on the RPG element, and why would organising fights like an FPS game be stupid? That's basically how multiplayer in every other MW game is organised. PGI is planning on allowing greater depth by fighting for factions, having elements of levelling up etc etc. But I don't think we're going to see EVE Online style travel where you're jumping from system to system and where it can take you an hour or more to get where you're wanting to go. It works in EVE because it's a space exploration game, don't really see that translating well into mech simulation game. In EVE you have to pilot to jump gates and the risk of pirates or an ambush from an enemy coporation is a constant; in MWO what would you do, sit and stare at the jump ship until its engines were recharged?
Gameplay mechanics > RPG elements everytime.
At this point I can't really see how the devs can reconcile things like space travel in the BT universe in a game that is focused on mech battles without having long periods of just staring at a screen. The only way it could work is if they used a Mechwarrior 4 Mercenaries style of movement from region to region and ignore travel time (which is entirely feasible and wouldn't affect gameplay just a players own sense of timeline distortion). You're expecting too much of the dev for anything more, give them a break and let them concentrate on building an awesome game about mechs shooting the stuffing out of each other.
EDIT:
Also barring a Dev word on this saying different, let's go with the PC Gamer article here: http://mwomercs.com/...ue-of-pc-gamer/
"You're not going to be trekking from one frontline to another, but instead hopping directly into skirmishes. The persistent world exists in terms of the universe map and your mech's own abilities".
Game, set and match old boy.
(also edited for horrendous spelling, it's early and I need a nice cup of tea ok)

Right, now tell us how you think the devs they will fit into the game with the 1:1 rule?

2 weeks to cross a galaxy? hardly. jump engines take a week to recharge. jumps are short, takes dozens to cross a sector let alone a galaxy. if you wanted to say, jump from the periphery outer boundary to the inner sphere, it would take you months. would take years to jump to clan space.
