Autocannons

So I bought a Dragon and thought, right, I'll try autocannons.

So it turns out the Ultra AC5 can jam. I mean really? Why the hell has weapon jamming been put in the game? These are meant to be high tech weapons of war for crying out loud and the guns jam? LOL!

It turns out there is about a 0.5 second delay between pressing the mouse button and the weapon actually shooting, whereas with lasers there is almost no delay. I mean really? Would you expect to use an AK47 or Desert Eagle and wait 0.5 seconds before pulling the trigger and the bullet leaving the chamber?

So now I know why there aren't many people using autocannons. The implementation SUCKS!

Now I played mechwarrior 2,3,4 and mercenaries and never were autocannons implemented so badly as they are in this game.

-------

Assault Mode

Players have to choose their mech before knowing which map they are playing. BAD IDEA.
Who the hell goes into battle unprepared? The game is at least part simulation, players should know in advance where they will be fighting. Maybe this will be the case with other modes.
Instead of Cbills from salvage I'd like to get a share of the defeated mech's equipment to repair and use or sell.

Mech lab

Paying every time to change from DHS (double heat sinks) to BHS (basic heat sinks) is totally uneccessary. It should be possible to slot them in and take them out as often as you want as long as you have them in stock, same with armour and structure. This way you can fully customise your mech for the battle ahead. Customisation is part of the fun in a game like this - why nerf it?

Apart from the above gripes this is promising to be a good game.

On ACs:
I was using an AC/20 quite some time on the Atlas. The reason i switched to the Gaus was the Heat, not the delay. With some practice you can hit very well with ACs

Assault Mode:
That random map thing has been discussed multiple times. I think it's ok as it is, it encourages you to build your mech in a way, that it would work in frozen city aswell as on hot maps. Otherwise no one would play caustic and just boat more lasers, with less heatsinks.
Regarding the salvage: That would need people to actually lose stuff when their mech is destroyed, or we will duplicate millions of items in a short time.

Mech Lab:
I agree

Have you tried SRMs on a mech that has no missile doors like an awesome yet still has a half to 1 second delay before they "launch"? They're just as bad in this department as ACs.

Mech lab

For assault mode the map u play should still be randomly chosen - but you would know ahead of time which map it will be. A simply note in the mech lab "next assault map is ...."

Salvage, no need for people to loose stuff when they die and who cares if there are millions of items? There are millions anyway. Items can only be used or sold. Giving people items at the end of the game rather than cbills simply gives them the option to keep the item or sell it for cbills. At the end of the day giving cbills to players for salvage, or items instead, or a combination of both, amounts to the same thing - items simply make it more fun.

Autocannons

Having played with autocannons for a few hours now I see no benefit to using them over lasers.
They weight more.
Their ammo weighs more.
Their ammo is finite.
They take up more crit slots
They are just as hot as lasers
Aiming is more difficult.
They have a longer range but hitting a moving target at 1000m + is difficult to say the least and not worth it with limited ammo.

Back in the days of MW3 & 4 autocannons ran cool. This made up for all the negatives. MWO needs to reduce the heat on ACs drastically or they wil simply not be used.

Yep, and there is no delay whatsoever. Keeping launcher doors open on a Catapult also removes delay.
