What about the option to just turn chat off in game?

I remain hopeful they will someday put a "real" chat feature in game. I've become accustomed to tabs, scrolls, filters, blocks, etc. in other games. In MWO, I wind up ignoring chat more often than not simply because of the buffoonery.

Would be fantastic to be able to block (and report) abusive players. 99% are absolutely great to play with, but just yesterday evening I came across a guy who took abuse to a whole new level. Started out harmless (he was upset that I was the last one alive on the team and didn't move efficiently to kill the last enemy player - and that was true): he first commented on my lack of skills, which was fine. Then asked me to uninstall the game - fine, found that amusing. Then asked me to stop playing altogether - still fine. Then suggested I buy a real gun, stick it my mouth and pull the trigger. OK, that's not fine. I'm thick-skinned and undoubtedly older and more mature than this guy, but idiotic cyber bullies like this guy need to be stopped.

When will block be effective? I.E. I don't want to play this person again. I don't want to drop with them. I don't want to hear from them.

Why is it taking so long to do anything to improve this?

What sense does it make to have to be someone's friend before you block them?

I'm afraid the answer is Wait for UI 2.0. Even then i doubt it will extend to never dropping with them again. Though to avoid extending queue times just swap them for someone else on the other side.

Teaming with a Blocked person should be a No No. They can be on the other side, but same team? No.

There are people that enjoy Team Killing (Pilot name: [redacted]). I need a way to never team with them again.

Neogrin, never name-and-shame. You risk getting yourself banned.

Yeah dude, naming and shaming is a *very* bad thing to do. I know it's aggravating, but that's what the support page is for. Slandering isn't required.

One way I see it is that a Block button would also act as a Report button (in game only).
  • User do not show up in chat anymore (forever) for the one who's reporting
  • User gets a red flag and with many red flags (many reporting him) he gets a ban of a few days

Playing devils advocate a bit.... that method is very open to abuse - someone makes several alt-accounts to simply blackmark someone for whatever reason (griefing to honest dislike of the individual)

No as you can only report IN GAME. I will fix this. So if in a single game 3 report him, then in another game he keeps annoying people and get reported again, he will get what he deserve. You would have to be maniac to create another account only in hope of a drop with the same guy to report him a second time.

And the average Troll would not qualify as a maniac?
Admittedly most would not take it THAT far... but my argument still stands - there are several people out there who would simply mark everyone they encounter.
Unlikely that they would get far, but when has that ever stopped that kind of person :D

I rather doubt it would be as bad as I suggest... but I would not have believed it would be as bad as it is either so YMMV

So? He can only flag you once, and everyone once. Nothing will happen if someone flag you. If many flag you then it's another story but how an angry troll could do that? He would have to create 20 accounts and drop with you that many times to flag you each time. If you think that could happen (he would have to be lucky), a newly created account could be restricted to flag anyone.
