While I understand your argument and have seen games set out with systems designed to punish people who just have a crash, the case where people simply disappear from a match only happens in one situation - they alt f4.
If you crash or disconnect, your mech remains in the field, and often times is locked in a circle-strafe pattern doing nothing.
then maybe ask the dev to have the mech stay when they alt-f4 promblem solved

Bad guy is still gone, right? Enemy team is still down one, right?
It doesn't really matter to me if he hung in there 'til he died, or if I just beat him so bad that he fled the battlefield, crying like a little girl.
I don't think I've ever even looked at my K/D ratio. I don't know where you'd find it to look at. If I don't care about mine, why would I care about his?

Mechs do NOT disappear regardless of how they disconnect

I did that a while ago. My heavily armored and slightly under engined cicada was all thats left vs an atlas, a zombie armless yen lo wang and a cicada. i was capping up to around 2/3 of the way when I was the only one left. of course everyone made a beeline for the enemy base. I ran all the way to my own base, stopping a few times to exchange fire with the cicada. I then ran along the map periphery towards my base while the yen lo wang started capping my base and the atlas was somewhere in between. Got a lucky shot and killed the cicada and proceeded to cap. It was close but our team won

You apparently take your games WAY too seriously. This game crashes often which is probably well over 50% of what you are seeing when some one discos or seems to go AFK.
I clearly stated that I didn't want people with legitimate issues punished. But the frequency at which it seems to coincide with the fact that they are about to die tells me that in most such cases it is an intentional DC.
At first I let it go, no biggie...wasn't happening but maybe once a day after several hours of play....now it is happening probably 3-4 times as much, either to me or others I'm playing with. That is an issue that effects all of us. Whether you care or not, some like me do(Or I do now at least)...especially when it starts to get so frequent. I'm not planning on quitting the game but that may be the proverbial straw that breaks the camel's back for someone else... player gone, game hurt...enough of those add up...game gone...or it at least dies sooner then it would have otherwise.
It is funny that no one I'm ever fighting seems to DC when they are kicking my a$$.

I think online gaming has proven that some people will do literally anything when there is no accountability.
A friend of mine pulled the PS power cable out of the wall when my GF at the time was about to beat him at Tekken.
Accountability or no, stats or no, some people live in a dream world where they can't lose, the poor dears.

Yes but overreaction is just as bad. We as players can't that the game crashes randomly. Blame PGI, not the players who suffer from the disco bug
Ok, I'll cop to coming on a little strong initially...My bad. But...
Why does everyone that criticizes my position or post simply skip over the fact that I said "I don't want to see people with legitimate issues punished"?
Also given that, it doesn't make a lot of sense to jump on me for just trying to keep this game as fun as it can be and encouraging others to do the same, Unless.....
I get that it happens because the game is bugged, or someone's PC has trouble... I'm all for giving someone the benefit of the doubt, especially in the first minute of the match when it seems most crashes, black screens, or disconnects happen. I get them a lot myself, and I occasionally see people I'm playing with on TS have an issue...occasionally it is in combat. Free pass....
What amazes me though, like I said in another post is how rare it seems to happen when I'm loosing the fight (Like never that I can remember)....I'm winning...DC....I'm winning...DC...I'm winning...DC...I'm loosing...dead, loosing, dead...No problem with them killing me, they got me fair and square...take the credit/fun, they deserve it.
But if the dc's happen so much, and seem to mostly happen only in combat, and only when you are about to die...That is pretty suspect, and IF you've been reported for instances like that multiple times you deserve some negative attention.

It's happening much more often now and it's very annoying because it wastes everyone's time. Although the killer does get XP, he in turn does not register a Kill for his stats.
What could possibly be in someone's mind to do something loser-ish and cheesy like this? To perserve a Kill-Death ratio? My two cents, those people need to get a life.
Not much we can do about it I guess. Sorry just venting.
For the last decade, I've been yelling at Dev houses to allow us to set a personal preference threshold for disconnect ratio.
eg: I set my personal preference to <= 15%+ Discon? == I do not get matched to you
Not one has listened because it was bad for the conventional business model.
Maybe this will change in the free to play model?
PGI, comment on this idea?..

I didn't skip over it but you gotta realize that reporting EVERYONE could mean that someone who is actually innocent could inadvertently be punished regardless of your good intentions. I think it would be more prudent that we wait until PGI fixes the disco bug before we all start reporting AFK/Alt-F4 scumbags because we don't know who is and who isn't.

I don't take the game seriously...I take people being respectful to other people seriously.
It is essentially the same issue as hacking...selfish people do things for attention and their own amusement at the expense of other people and the entire game.
I believe in calling BS on that kind of behavior.

No one is really going to look very hard at this stuff unless a user gets 10 reports or something in a couple weeks.

It is just ridiculous what they do. I might get a lot of QQ on this but think of those people in your team that you are leaving on the battlefield. PGI should not reward people who do not want to play nor grind.

Well first I'd only report someone who was active and fighting then DC's the moment before their death, the most suspect cases.
You make a fair point about waiting for them to fix the bugs...That is one way to go, and I can respect that. I'd rather report those who seem to be doing it intentionally...let the devs sort it out.
I believe that while we need to be conscience and forgiving of the fact these things happen unintentionally, we also should to be vigilant against those who do it intentionally. Just like we would against hackers. You've all probably heard the saying, "The price of freedom is eternal vigilance"...I'd like us all to be free to enjoy this game, while retaining a modicum of respect for others trying to do the same.
So there is the whole notion of creating a community that discourages things like that.
They have asked us to report stuff like this after all. They can drop into dev mode or whatever if that person gets reported a lot and sort it out. I doubt they'll boot anyone on my word, or anyone else's...short of another dev's.

Nah, both are fair imo. People who DC at the start didn't do anything and haven't lost anything, then should just be spat out to mechlab so they can reconnect to a match without any cbills. And I wouldn't mind people capping me if I DC right in the middle of mech groan. Sure there will be that 1 time where I DC and I still had a really outside chance to pull it back or take one with me.. c'est la vie mon amie.

Almost exactly, the kind of system I'd like to see. Not so sure about the c-bill for round start DC's...Maybe have like a 1-2 minute grace period at least...I don't know, but one that can take into account whether you were active and fighting just before death, and then make sure if you DC, it gets counted as a kill....would be great IMO. Don't a lot of games just assume you died when you DC?
Ya, there is going to be the occasional person with a ton of issues...but you've got to weigh a small minority being annoyed by getting deaths from DC's in certain circumstances VS, the good of the game/fun for all.
And hey, if bugs are so bad that we all take some deaths and the bar for all of our stats gets set a little lower I can live with that.
