Ok, this has always been a sweet spot for me, does anyone here like LAMs? For those of you who do not know, LAMs are Land Air Mechs, or 'mechs that transform into aerospace fighters. It seems a little anime-ish to me, but i would still love to have one in my 'mech bay. Thoughts?

And I was expecting laser anti-missile systems.

I've seen a number of people express their love of LAMs, but you wont be seeing them in your mech bay methinks.

Yeah... probably because they are so rare and that they would be a pain to program, design, code, etc. etc.

That and the programming required for them would be maybe similar to that required for other vehicles, and the message I'm understanding at the moment is MWO is mechs only, and not full battletech battlefield full of tanks, hovers, vtols, infy etc.

I would totally love a Drillson myself.

LAMs are anime-ish because they're some of them are the same 'Mechs as the ones from Macross. In the same vein, so is the Warhammer. However, when I look at a Warhammer, I don't think anime. The same is not true for LAMs. In fact, anything that transforms make me think of anime (Transformers, Voltron, Gundam, etc. I gotta admit that Michael Bay's CGI was great. The rest of the movies is another topic.) I don't care one way or another once if they're in, but I won't miss them at all if they're not.

I don't see them coming into play, if they where they would have to add Areospace fighters then. Not against them but it would add a lot of things to game both good and bad.

Anyone else instantly think: Wing Zero piloted by Heero Yui <sp on the last name?> in Mobile Suit Gundam Wing?

Wait you think of gundam when you hear LAMs? You should be thinking robotech/macross as thats where they all came from (at least the ones in BT). Even the transforming gundams came from robotech/macross. original macross came out 86-88 I believe long before any of the gundam series with a transforming mobile suit in it. plus macross is just a better series on the whole. I'm not sure if macross is the first series ever to have transforming mechs/mecha in it. I doubt it but it was definitely one of the earlier ones.

We're never going to see LAMs simply because of the Unseen issue..

And as much as I would LOVE a Macross Online MMO, this isn't it.

Original Gundam came out in 79, Macross (before It became Robotech) was 84 if memory serves, and Robotech was 86.

Yes when I think of the LAMs I think of them as the Varitechs from Macross because of the exact transformation methods involved and honestly while they would be awesome to use I believe for the time being they should just stay as a TT device, should the devs ever advance to include aerospace units as playable then I would like to see LAMs added in, otherwise no thanks besides it will take a few years before someone restarts the project on them canonically if memory serves.

I have always liked them, and would love to have them in the game. I can see however that coding resources for now are better spent getting the game up and running.

Ehh, weren't those more or less phased out because they were much too expensive to maintain and fragile? And if I'm remembering correctly, the last known factory was on Irece in DC territory up until Nova Cat snatched it. And that one only really did Stinger LAMs.

Not to say they aren't worth including at some point - they definitely have a tactical advantage with versatility - but their cost would have to be astronomical. Still, wouldn't mind zipping back and forth through the skies, raining coconuts on the pitiful cities below :D

Almost, it's not that they were phased out, the tech for them was lost during the first Succession war but even before then they weren't very popular, in fact I believe that they were less popular then Quads. You are right that the last known functioning factory was captured by Nova Cat in 3050, and it did specialize in Stinger LAMs. However if memory server sometime before 3085 LAMs are rediscovered and again produced in limited numbers
