Not strictly true. You CAN use GXP to unlock mech efficiencies too if you have enough to do it. You can't mix and match GXP and XP for any one purchase though. For example, say you have 1200 GXP and 1600 XP. If there was an efficiency for 1000, you could choose whether to use GXP or XP to unlock it. If there was an efficiency for 1500, you would only be able to use XP to unlock it. If there was an efficiency for 2500, then you would NOT be able to unlock it even though you total XP + GXP is greater than 2500, unless you do a conversion as described below.

You can convert XP to GXP, but that cost MC (ie real money) to do it. So in this scenario you could convert your XP to GXP by paying a little MC so that you would have 2800 GXP, and then you could unlock the 2500 efficiency.

By the way, that's how I do all my leveling up. I only play in my favorite variant (not the other two) and just convert all my XP in that variant to GXP, and then I spend that GXP on the other variants without actually playing with them. When all the efficiencies all the way up to Master are unlocked for my favorite variant, I sell the other two without ever having played a game with them. Again, it cost real money (mc) to play with this model, but I don't mind contributing to the game in this way.

I know what you're saying here, but somewhere I read a statement by one of the devs to help justify it. The dev said to think of the efficiencies as the pilot learning how to hack his mech to make it run better. Like maybe after piloting the thing for so long, the pilot learns how to reprogram something or tune the hardware or stuff like that to squeeze a little more performance out of the equipment. And maybe after piloting different variants you learn idiosyncrasies about that equipment that you can come back and apply to your other variants to make them all run better. That sort of thing. Anyway, that's the justification I read somewhere.

It's the same thing as people overclocking their CPU/GPU. You get the standard one, and see how far you can OC your CPU/GPU. In this case the mech skill trees simplify it to one standard boost % for each skill, but same idea.

Well it would seem like a lot of things in MWO Raven Mech Tree broken? Or did they change rules and not tell anyone.

I trained 3 Ravens and unlocked Elite, completed all Elite skills on 3L variant but not on others and find Master skill available.

Necrothread sorry, but I wanted to bump this to save others from unneccessary grindind (that I just did for two days)

Always thought that I needed 3 variants like when unlocking elites. I actually even thought that it was a bug when it says that I have unlocked 5/3 needed variants. Now I'm somewhat frustrated since I had already unlocked hunchies and I really didn't want to spend all that time playing the ****** centurion variants to unlock master on YLW (well not ****** as such, but HBK-4SP does everything better than CN9-AL and CN9-A just feels lacking in firepower when I'm used to having an AC20 on YLW; didn't want to commit all that CB to buy the one variant that is actually different since I don't imagine I would've liked it that much)

No, but it can be a lot of CBills. GXP is only used for proficiencies, and can even be obtained by converting Mech XP to GXP with real money (MCs). However, just try to not only grind up, but also to outfit those three mechs when it comes to assault mechs. For the Atlas, the cheaper mechs are 9.5 mil Cbills (with at least another 3 mil into upgrades/parts). The most expensive is almost 13.7 million plus upgrades. You start talking about some serious Cbills when you are trying to unlock three of those.

Well you keep the mach and open up all eight basic skills. Then you open up the elite skills with one mech (the rest of the mech in the bay) to find that you have to do the same procedure all over for the other two mechs as well. OK, now I got that one figured out. Now I got three atlas mechs that have elite skill. OK, now what? I skill generate experience tied to the particular mech... Experience of no use what so ever? I am missing something here?

You can convert Mech XP to General XP if you spend MC.
You can spend General XP on mech skills, not just modules. i.e. If you have the $ and the spare XP on your mechs, you can convert all your spare Mech XP to GXP, buy a new mech and get the skills straight away.

yeh! I mastered my D-DC, had to convert all that Xp to Gxp ouch! lots of MC. since I unlocked Master on my mech, is the game supposed to add a highlight to it, like the founders (F) the only way I know its mastered in the mech lab?

So for clarification for my noob self I need to buy 3 mechs and unlock each level on all before I can move to the next level on each mech? and what happens if I have 4 mech do I need to do it on all 4?

Hey Chooch,
The only full unlock you need to do on a particular chassis (for example the Jenner) is at the Basic level. So you would need to get 8/8 on all 3 Jenner variants to open up Elite. Once you have Elite available, you can do 4/4 Elite on just 1 variant of the Jenner and 2 other Light chassis variants to open up the Master level for the Jenner. Regardless, you will have to unlock 4/4 Elite of 3 Light chassis in order to have the Master slot available to you in any variant.

I generally have just unlocked both Basic and Elite for each variant of a particular chassis before moving on to the next, but it comes down to play style and preference.

Progression:
JR7-D - 8/8 Basic - 4/4 Elite - 1/1 Master
JR7-F - 8/8 Basic - 4/4 Elite - 1/1 Master
JR7-K - 8/8 Basic - 4/4 Elite - 1/1 Master

Alternate Progression:
JR7-D - 8/8 Basic - 4/4 Elite - 1/1 Master
JR7-F - 8/8 Basic
JR7-K - 8/8 Basic

COM-1D - 8/8 Basic
COM-1B - 8/8 Basic - 4/4 Elite
COM-2D - 8/8 Basic

RVN-3L - 8/8 Basic - 4/4 Elite
RVN-2X - 8/8 Basic
RVN-4X - 8/8 Basic

Who cares about 1 extra module slot??

I play with zero module since the beginning, they are too expensive for the advantage they provide.

Modules such as Advanced Target Decay + Advanced Sensor Range are often instrumental in many cases, and in mechs such as the Stalkers that start with only 1 module slot, that extra slot is pretty crucial to make you that much more effective.

While they aren't certainly necessary, it would be outright foolish to disregard the usefulness provided by some of the modules and the extra slot provided by the Master level.

Correct, total of 4 module slots available to the D-DC with unlock.
