I saw this movie years ago, probaly @ 1990 or so. It's one of the things that compounded my interest in battletech. It's old, cheesey, only has one or two actors you will know, but worth a view to see 1989's special effects and the models they used for the mechs.

We're all just Rock'em Sock'em Robots. That movie is so horribly bad that it is good.

Maybe, depends on how much the budget was for the CGI

I got it as a gift for christmas one year as a gag. I liked the movie as a kid for what it was. Then a few years ago, I got it.

It is post-World War III. War is outlawed. In its place, are matches between large Robots called Robot Jox...

Isn't this the same premise as Mobile Fighter G Gundam?

Lol, melee with that thing is highly improbable. Great for a laugh though.

Robot Jox was a bad movie, but It was a bad movie in a good way as far as I'm concerned.

Corny, hammy acting, terrible dialog, and the characters were as stereo typical as possible. A fun movie to watch IMO. A good B movie that probably deserves the RiffTraxx treatment.

BTW, for as bad as you might think the special effects look now, that was actually pretty good for the time that movie came out.

I saw that movie when I was a kid on TV, and I have always wondered what the name of it was. Nostalgia'd hard.

That's my point. Is this movie the climax of cinematic development? HELL NO!. It's totally 100% camp. But, as you point out, I do remember thinking the effects were out of this world at the time. All before CGI came along and rendered everything almost unbelievable. For those who like BT, the worst thing is you waste 70 minutes of your life, and might get a cheap chuckle out of it..

Yes, so bad, it's good.

These movies(there's 3 of them) all suck pretty hard. I'm a Battletech fan and still didn't like them one bit. It's not the graphics that bother me(They're actually quite amusing) but rather the garbage characters and plot. Nothing that anyone says or does in these movies make any logical sense. In this movie for example, you got this stupid as a doorknob woman that gets mad when the hero refuses to fight then gets equally mad when he decides to come back.(And he does both of these decisions for equally stupid reasons) This is what we call a contradication of logic; it exists in badly written scripts.

I also like how they train their Mech pilots with pointless boxing matches and climbing exercising instead of actual combat simulators like you would logically do. You'd never train this way for this task, lol. It makes as much sense as putting a computer nerd in a boxing ring so that it will make it a better networking administrator. It doesn't work that way, lol. Why aren't they in combat simulators learning how to actually PILOT the Mech? It's all completely stupid. It reminds me of the Ricky Bobby movie where his dad gives him ridiculous irrelevant tasks to "improve" his driving skills. The difference however is that movie was hilarious to watch; where as this one is just dreadfully boring... And what about that several decade old Mech that is able to power up, run, fight, and shoot, without a fuss despite just sitting there for ages? Sorry. I'm not buying it. It should have taken far more effort to get that thing turned on at all; let alone able to fight.

I can't even recommend these for a "so shitty they're entertaining" watch. They're extremely boring and have nothing interesting to see or watch aside from the silly Mech graphics. I was pretty much bored to death and resisting the urge to turn them off before they ended.

Wasn't there a sequel to Robot Jox?

Aside from G Gundam, I mean.
