Confirmed, at least Catapult or Cicada always look like the first one, with or without Twist X.

Maybe it is a bug that only occurs on mechs without lower arm actuators? If anyone can include a video capture of a cat or cic with Twist X, that would be great.

PS: I can have any mech look like the second using free look (left ctrl) of course...

With freelook you can get the arms to move where you want but it won't affect how far the torso crosshairs move.

Free look looks exactly as in your second screenshot. it's the cooldown indicators which move, not the crosshairs or arms.

Wouldn't the arm crosshair be in the middle of the cooldown indicators? I could be wrong. I don't freelook often.

free look is just your pilot's head which moves, the mech remains static and that includes the arms. as I said, looks exactly as in the second screenshot. And I free look quite often, it's like a rear view mirror.

I couldn't get the torso crosshairs to move past full twist on my Cicada, seems this is a bug for specific mechs. On Awesome and Atlas it is working as I originally stated. Maybe it does have something to do with the arm actuators. Strange that it effects the torso twist, but then what I know of coding could fit with room in a gnat's ear.

Oh I know the confusion here. You are correct when the mech does not have lower arm actuators. On mechs with lower arm actuators, the arm reticle moves with your freelook.

Trying to recreate earlier Twist X images using freelook.

So it seems we were both incorrect in our assumptions. :) I'm glad that's cleared up.

Might be a programmer confused MaxTorsoAngleYaw and MaxArmRotationYaw in the code. The second one is 0 for Cicada and Catapult.

edit: Actually if the screenshot from SpekX is with doubled efficiencies (all basics researched) then that's likely the case. The Atlas has:

MaxTorsoAngleYaw="80"
MaxArmRotationYaw="40"

The Twist X bonus is 10% basic or 20% when elited.

The screenshot shows 88° twist. So what they calculate might be MaxTorsoAngleYaw + MaxArmRotationYaw * Twist X bonus.

Anyone has a Hunchback with elite Twist X to verify? It has MaxTorsoAngleYaw="120" and MaxArmRotationYaw="40", so it would be very obvious which one it uses.

edit2: Confirmed not the case, the double bonus is simply broken, see Ranzear's post below this one.

Sounds like another bug tbh.

edit: I tried that in a trial Atlas and when you look all the way left or right and turn the torso the same way you get that arm indicator go into infinity, i..e you get that line horizontal across your entire screen. Definitely a bug (edit: made a separate report about that: http://mwomercs.com/...-and-free-look/)

This just brings up that this whole 'beta testing' thing would be a lot easier with a 'free' or 'scrim' mode.

Checking my Elite -4P now...

Pointed north on drop, cool...

'Normal' twist looks to be 120 degrees, Twist X pushes the reticle to about 132 degrees.

Further edit: Maybe I'm not getting the 2x bonus because I didn't unlock Speed Tweak yet.

Yep, a testing ground where you can test without having to drop with a team would be rather helpful, not just for beta.

Anyway, thx for confirming. Should mean the double bonus isn't working, you are supposed to get it once you have all the basic (blue) ones unlocked, shown by the "efficiency doubled" notice in the info popup. I had already reported that the double bonus isn't working for speed tweak, either, so it probably works for nothing then, basic or elite.

Recently tested with Raven. Twist-X doesn't work.
Neither the base nor the x2 bonus.

EDIT:

Maybe we could make a list of all mechs and their normal, Twist-X and x2 Twist-X torso twist angles.
Would be nice to know these values anyway.

Are any of the bonuses actually working?

Tested Centurion.
Normal twist angle is 90°
Couldn't test Twist-X because it was the last of 3, so...
x2 bonus Twist-X gives me a twist angle of 99° to each side, which is the 10% bonus...

I highly doubt all of the efficiences work, but we don't have any way to reliably test all of them.

from my experience "twist X" doesn't aply correctly to:

Mech normal / Twist-x / x2 / (x2 should be)
Raven-3L 120° / 120° / 120° / (144°)
Centurion-A 90° / ? / 99° / (108°)
Centurion-AL 90° / ? / 99° / (108°)
Centurion-9D 90° / ? / 99° / (108°)
Yen-Lo-Wang 120° / 120° / 120° / (144°)
Awesome-9M 90° / ? / 99° / (108°)
Cataphract-3D 90° / ? / 99° / (108°)
