I had to log in just to put my two cents into the argument.

Some of you seem intent on pulling a 180 on the OP and suggesting that he's the problem, but his original point stands as solidly as the Statue of Liberty during a hurricane. People can be royally stupid, simple-minded, and about as competent as a salted slug - and PUGs are generally worse by a factor of two.

As Agent K in MIB said, "Kid, a person is smart. People are dangerous, stupid animals - and you know it."

Now a days it's not about being on TS or voice coms, but it is about who has the least worst puggers then the other side. If your side's pugs are decent you'll win, but if the opposite team's pugs are better than yours then you might as well not play since you'll end up losing. I've never seen the EU TS server as deserted as it is right now. No one is playing anymore because the game just isn't fun as you'll lose more often than you'll win.

Come now, James. Even with the PUG situation as it is, you know that you win regularly with me. ;)

Of course it's always your team's fault.
You couldn't have possibly done anything wrong - such as expecting support from people you neither know nor care about...

I'm usually in a LRM boat, I actually had to resort to killing guys with my medium lasers because only very few people realize what the "R" key does. And don't even get me started on TAG.

The fact is, you can't be a proper player without a basic understanding of teamwork. This is a team game, not a single player campaign.

I usually run in a Teamspeak group, but I pug too. I will have 10 horrible games in a row where everyone insists on running in four different directions, then a few in a row where assaults form a line, support is behind them, and scouts target the enemy, harass, and hit the enemy base to draw back defenders. Guess which ones are wins and which are losses? I only pug when I am on very limited time, as i enjoy the social aspect of actually talking to my team. The stats mean nothing to me, so I try to help new players out and raise the overall playerbase when pugging, even if it means losing a lot.

And here you hit the core of the issue. Most puggers don't want to be on a team at all. They'd be happier playing a 16 man free for all deathmatch in Atlases. That's why they won't talk, even using ingame text chat. That's why they offended when you try to come up with a plan. That's why 4 man team + 4 puggers is basically the same as 4 man team + 4 AFKers.

One time I got killed and someone on my team said I should use the "R" key more.
I always use that key.
You try to target an enemy mech when 3 Atlases are pounding away at you.

I've seen things you premades would not believe....

Lasers glitter as they alpha strike my back at the begining of a round on river city.

Trial Ravens on fire as they overheat suicide over caustic valley

All of these moments will be lost like tears on the forum as I launch with a group.

The common factor of all of your "team stupid" matches is you. And probably all the other members of your team

Sometimes, you just need to adapt to whatever the rest of the team is doing, and hope for the best.

Personally, I'm hoping this is reduced with the 8v8 premade-only matches.

When both teams are team stupid, neither team is team stupid.

Not true the other common thread is that when he tries to give direction the "team" did the opposite. So either they are stupid, or English isn't their native language and they cannot read his messages(A plausible explanation since we have players from round the world).

Teamspeak does not help with the current 4 man limit per group. What matters is that you have 4 complete morons that do not know what to do or what team work is and you lose repeatedly through no fault of your own or the three other people in your TS group.

Wait. We're in the same team then! ^^

To be honest. I'd like to force new players through a tutorial before they can join any games.
I'm playing 99% of my games in pugs.
Coordination isn't the biggest problem. It's players doing something else and ignoring everything they get told and the lone wolfs who think they can win alone.
People ignoring information about the location of the opponents main force.
Oh, and my favourite game "Chase the Jenner". Never gets old.

Btw. "Stay together!" is like an order to scatter it seems. ^^

When I run a light in a PUG match I typically spot for my team. My bonuses come from spotting assists and with any luck, a teammate fires a volley or two of missiles their way before I have to break contact. For the most part, I don't group with others until I run into a streak cat or a streak commando. Gauss cats I avoid like the plague since I typically have a ping around 45 lol. I don't feel it's wise for lights to group with the rest until they run into trouble and hopefully they can bring that trouble back to a waiting friendly group.

Sometimes, on a rare occassion, you get that PUG drop where someone takes command in team chat and everybody listens, communicates, and you actually do alright - probably even win in a stunning landslide 8-1 or something. Rarely.

Communication is the key. When you group up with people on TS, you're in a group of people who WANT to communicate and work together as a team. When you drop as a PUG, 99 times out of 100, half the people on your team just don't care. They want to blaze forward and shoot things. They're not going to listen, they're not going to stick together, they're not going to communicate or coordinate anything.

It's a team game. Get on a team, THEN drop. Don't expect to drop into a team.

The funny thing about the "Stick together!" meme is that there is no further comms from the same guy down the line when it comes to making decisions only a couple of minutes into the match -- so naturally, people start doing their own thing what seems to be the right choice at the time.

Me, I try to be a good wingman to another Atlas, but 99% of the time there's no comms either and eventually we get separated.

So, to the OP, this is the way it is until you decide to go with a) voice comms and :) a dedicated group/team.

If you query "Plan?" at the start of a match, you are a big part of the problem.

Provide a plan, don't ask for one. If you're experienced enough to care to have a plan, you should know the maps and basic tactics well enough to formulate your own. Provide it. People can then choose to follow or suggest a diff plan.

Oh, and "lights too"? Pft. Any half-way decent scout is going to think you're an ***** for saying that.
