Stalker, by Far.

Thug is not an option, of course, as it's an ancient Star League design that only got retrofitted and redistributed in 3039. Likewise, the Hatamoto Chi only came out after the Thugs were studied and put on a Charger chassis.

But Stalker... I go back with the stalker. WAYYYY back to Mechwarrior 2 Mercenaries. That one mission where you have to escort APCs to free some prisoners, but you are given an Assault mech to pilot for the mission, and that 'mech being a massive Stalker. Vicious at medium to short range, with a devastating 4MLas+Dual SRM6 short range punch.

Never has such a Derpy looking design ever been so devastating.

Had to vote Atlas to me it the epitome of what an assault mech is a big slow gun turret that officers hide in lol. Jk I've got nothing but love for the vaunted skull :)

Awesome, because it's awesome. I tend to shy away from primarily ammo based arsenals (especially before the advent of C.A.S.E). Never running out of ammo is worth the heat IMHO.

A lot of good options here but I went with the Battlemaster. I love the way it looks both the classic and the resculpt from project pheonix. The Battlemaster also has a nice assortment of weapons and is an excellent in fighter. It also has the honor of being Hanse Davion's personal mech.

Stalker I feel is a little underrated and underloved. Using healthy range brackets, it's a very dangerous machine with only a few heat issues. A little under armored, but with those two Large Lasers, it can punch some holes. And once it punches holes, it becomes a crit-seeking nightmare.

The Awesome is always a good choice. Its firepower is something to truly fear. It only needs to stagger its firepower once every other volley, and anything that can alpha 3 PPCs without overheating enough to see any negative effects is a machine to treat with a certain deferred respect.

Atlases are beautiful war machines who do exactly as Kerensky. 'Powerful, Foreboding, Impenetrable' were what was asked of it, and it certainly classifies for all of these. It's long range punch is lacking, but Celestia save you if you get within around 270~300 meters of one.

Victors are knife-fighters through and through. Its weapons load and armor is a little light (though nothing to be scoffed at), however, it's one of the few assault mechs who I feel balanced that well enough with the incredible maneuverability it has for its weight class. 67kph with a 120m jump will get you far in a knife fight, especially against other assault mechs who will be having to come to halts just to turn fast enough to face you.

Ultimately, I gave the vote to the Stalker.

Victor. Good mobility, and a very solid close in weapons loadout make it a near perfect assault for close quarters urban fighting. Later versions fitted with a Gauss rifle just make it better.

The Awesome. The various stock models almost all have good mobility for an assault, good armor, multiple 'big punch' weapons, no reliance on ammunition (a bonus to anyone fighting an extended campaign or behind enemy lines).

Going purely on looks, though, the Zeus will always have a special place in my heart. In tabletop, I like to use a custom fancytech version I named 'The Judge'...Heavy PPC w/cap in the left arm, 2xStreak 6-packs in the right arm, Angel ECM, LAMS, and 2 ER Mediums in each side torso...and no XL engine for better survivability. :)

Since my highlander is not on this list I picked the Marauder 2 since it jump capable and good for all maps.

I would love to have the Steiner 5s Banshee always liked the look and stats of the mech. But the mech I would always take in a close combat city map KING CRAB nothing says loving like dual a/c 20.

I have a feeling we will see several of each mech but maybe more lights and medium selection since they were the work horse of the time. Even in the 3049 assault mech are suppose to be rare than heavy on the battlefield.Maybe a handle full on the battlefield at one time especially if you a merc, unless your Zeta Battlion of Wolf Dragoons which was composed of heavy and assault class mech.

I've already stated my preference for the Awesome but must make a passing comment on the Banshee-S (all other variants at the time are a pile of **** IMO).

It's really nice, but it would have been great if that AC10 had a bit more ammo (maybe the SRM6 too so a pilot need not be stingy in searching for crits). Those silly Small Lasers would be the obvious choice for the swap list.

Close three way dance between the Awesome, BattleMaster and the Atlas.
But gonna have to go with the Awesome, when it comes to level 1 tech.

No ammo worries, and just need to worry about juggling my heat.

Personally I have to throw my 2c in for the Banshee, so long as we're talking about the Steiner, revision the Banshee-3S. The 3S was my preferred mech in MPBT. I'm a big fan of the Marauder weapons loadout and the S Banshee gives you a similar loadout with more armor, pre-Marauder II.

I admit, I also liked piloting it because it 'Looked' different... I don't mind standing out from the crowd of Atlases & Battlemasters...

My original choice would have been the BattleMaster, since it was the only Assault Mech available from MechWarrior (One). Nothing says Alpha-strike like a PPC,6 Medium Lasers, Machine Guns and 6 SRMS...

Yup! I would also vote the ANH-1 Annihilator, if i had the chance. So i voted the Awesome.
Some newer Dragoon Annihilator-variants are exclusively equipped with clan-technology, but the original design was developed in the old amaris civil war-era.
