I'm looking for a new CPU (and board and ram) for my PC and i was curious, what MWO recommends, but i can't find the system requirements any more?

So, what is better for MWO, a i5 or i7?

I favour the Intel Core i5-3570K, would cost 220 Euro. On the other side the Intel Core i7-3770K with 300 Euro...

Is an i7 worth it?

The only other game that challenges my PC would be BF3, the rest runs smooth. In fact, BF runs good too, but it could be faster, but i'm not sure if this is a cpu or a graphics issue.

At the moment i have an E8400 with 4GB ram and a GTX570. I want to keep the graphics card for now, should be enough.

Hello matey, I recently built myself a new system and have the i5-3570k overclocked to 4.4Ghz with 8Gb Ram (GPU is a Radeon HD7850)

MWO runs like a dream and I have never suffered any performance issues whatsover.

I extensively researched CPU's before my build and the 3570k offered by far the best value processing power for the money at my chosen price point.

I would highly recommend this CPU

thank you.

Thats exactly what all hardware sides telling me... seems to be no real benefit with an i7...

May i ask, what mainboard did you choose?

I agree with Chuff. The i5 is more than enough. If you should consider an i7 I would also take a look at the Xeon processors. You might save some money due to the missing graphics part on the Xeons.

Example:

Xeon E3-1240V2 (259€)
i7-3770 (284€)

Both of them are almost identical.

I did the similar after my CPU died so was looking for a new CPU and Motherboard some months ago. I went with a Core i5-3570k CPU and the Asus P8Z77-V Pro board. For the GPU I choose the Asus GeForce GTX 670 2GB (GTX670-DC2T-2GD5) (great stock cooler), my first Nvidia card in a long time. I reused my older RAM so got a mix of Corsair XMS3 and newer Crucial Ballistix Ram, 8GB in total.

I run with all on highest in MWO and its smooth as can be using my native 1680x1050 screen resolution.

Same board here :) Asus P8Z77-V LX. Superb board, high def audio, USB3, great board for overclocking. Like ninjacool I run it on max settings(1920x1080) and it is ultra smooth. While you're at it I would also highly recommend an SSD if your budget can stretch, I got a 120Gb OCZ Agility for about £60 and I'm absolutely in love with it, cold start and ready to rock and roll in windows within 7 or 8 seconds

I got an SSD too like you Chuff awhile back, an OCZ Vertex 2 100GB model as my C: drive, real fast but limited on space. It's already getting old though as I hear OCZ is already on Vertex 4 and all the SSD's now are generally cheaper too :)

SSD is here, also a 2TB Raid1 for data (which means i need an oboard raid).

SSD is by far the best upgrade, thats like double heat sinks with an XL engine :)

I'll take a look at the Asus, always had asus-boards...

Skip the SSD, the only thing better is load times, but you have to wait for everyone to start anyway so it's very useless for MW:O.

The i5-3570K would be a perfect match for this game, nothing more needed.

It's not really helpful but here is my system:
i7-3960X (OC to 4.8GHz)
16GB Hyper X Quad-DDR3 (2133Mhz)
3 x 2GB Nvidia Geforce GTX 680

It also helps to have a SSD drive, much quicker loading. I have a 240gb Intel 335 SSD, works amazing! :-)

and yes... I am showing off :-)

Ok, thank you all, just ordered :(

Core i5 3570k
Asus p8z77-v (see no point in the pro version for me)
16 gb low profile corsair cl9 1600MHz
Thermalright hr-02 macho (hope that fits)
Be quiet dark power 530W

All for roundabout 530 euro.

I'm not sure if i have to reinstall win 7... Always did this with new mainboard, but without it its much less work...if it works

@boomwhatever:
I really would like to touch your... Rig. It must be so huuuuge and awesome. And hot!

Well i never used Intel, i personally find AMD far better for gaming ... i have amd phenom x4 @ 3.20GHz (quad) with 8gb DDR3 ram and run bf3 maxed, and mech maxed with no overclock or any other stuff, video card is a 1gb gtx 550 GeForce (games run perfect)... at some point, all you need is extra ram, not really a new cpu or video card, also is the less expensive thing to change if you get a good deal .......

For CANADA AND US use ncix.com, its a very good site with good prices to upgrade ur computer, i did mine from scatch there, less than 500$ (new case, MB, ram, video card, cpu, fans, power supply, HDD, cd/dvd burner )

O/P already chose, but just to document for posterity, but the difference beteen the i5 and i7 is that the i7 has hyperthreading, which allows each core to process twice the amount of threads [and shows as double the cores in task manager]

Hyper-threading is extrememly useful for tasks like video en/transcoding, etc. It has no real impact on gaming performance. In Sandy bridge times, it was suggested to disable hyper-threading for higher overclocks in order to maximize gaming performance.

So, yes. . unless you do a lot of audio/video work, the i5 is your best bet.

I just ordered a Dell XPS 8500. You guys think I did ok? Should I expect any trouble? I pay 10 bucks/month for XBOX live, I can play MWO for $23 on this machine.

Windows 8, 64-bit
i5-3350P processor
12GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce GT 620 1GB DDR3 for Win 8
1TB HDD

Also, it has onboard Bluetooth. Can I use my crappy cellphone headset for Teamspeak??

Thanks,
Tim

CPU is good enough, the GPU is super weak.

yeah...well no, i wouldnt trust those system requirements especially the minimum... when they issued these they said they are not final and they should prob update them

im on c2d E6750, 4GB of ram and an ati HD6950....the game performance is terrible, all graphics options are turned down to the lowest no VS no AA it was unplayable..had to drop the resolution to 1600*900 (on a 22' monitor) to make it barely playable..

i too am thinking of upgrading ...but my budget is way too low at the moment... :P
