Please look back at the Mechwarrior 3 HUD. Bottom right is a small picture of the players mech. It shows the orientation of the legs to torso, and conveys the direction which the mech is going clearly. This portion of the HUD rendered the players mech only, so no peeking around corners / over hills while remaining concealed. Originaly it was the damage display paperdoll in 3d. Would it not be enough for new players, along with a button to center legs to torso?

I would really just like to see outside the mech views for movement, but no ability to fire from 3rd person.

Maybe there is a way and I just don't know it but I really want to see my own mech as I'm tromping towards the objective. What's the point in being able to reskin if you can't even see it???

However since there could be issues and dividing the community based on view for matches I would like to keep 1st person as the only view you can fire from.

DeathofSelf you already conceded that in a perfect theory MWO it would be acceptable, so you're a reasonable player.

I concede the notion that if it's not balanced it will be bad bad BAD... just like anything else that's imba and/or poorly thought out and disliked from the onset.

Call me a believer I guess, but you're a reasonable skeptic and at least you can see that in principle if executed correctly would not be a bad thing. What is wrong with that? It's a lot to ask, I suppose, and they have other stuff that should take a higher priority, but why not see how it plays out at least?

I just do not understand the ultimatum players "I paid money I will quit and ask for refund if this feature is introduced". What is the problem, you can still play FPS. You can still RP and pretend to be a space cowboy, I don't see RPers threatening to quit if you're allowed to name your pilot "squirrel master deluxe9000".

Wow... Another batch of game designers who don't get it.

Splitting the community this way will destroy it.

No no no

I remember that thing, I hated it and would turn it off for the bars immediately :) That is a possibility though.

One more vote for NO. All bugs aside, this game has managed to preserve the SIM feel pretty well; this kind of move takes it squarely to arcade which is the wrong direction. The best suggestion i can say, is just no. Look at the voting thread, and see this is not what the community wants.

My suggestion:

So if I'm understanding you correctly, you want a newbie coming around a corner and have a mech magically appear in a place where there was no mech before. Is this supposed to help new players or get them slaughtered?

The logic seems to be that it would give powergamers a cheese edge and break the game open.

This is my main concern. I hated 3rd person in MW4, but, in order to compete, I was forced to learn and use it none the less. Newbies getting 3rd person view isn't going to suddenly make them feel any better about the game. Which seems to be PGI's motivating factor behind this decision.

Adding 3rd person view would destroy immersion. I hate the idea.

For God's sake NO NO NO NO NO

I want my $60 back if you follow through with this. This won't be the game concept that was presented to me when I purchased my Founder's package...

Maybe we need a slimey Class Action Lawyer to go all Harmony Gold on PGI...

every mech game I have played online had the option to go into 3rd person. but you could also use the game lobby options to lock everyone into a certain view.

what is so bad about having options? I know that gauss will be even better after this. is this why so many are voting no?

Yeah. Making the game better would make them feel better about the game.

The logic seems to be either that it would give noobs skill and water down the game play.
OR
The logic seems to be that it would give powergamers a cheese edge and break the game open.

Both of those cannot be true simultaneously.

When you flatten a learning curve those who already have a modicum of ability are given a huge advantage.

One example would be 'heatshots'; with a 3rd person view I could line up a headshot, step into the open, kill target, step back. Of course so could the enemy... so instead we'd switch to using jump jets and ...MW4.

Another example would be sneaking: my Jenner creeps up on the flank to target an enemy and .... MW4.

please dont do this PGI.

get a working tutorial. NOT a 3p camera.

a tutorial dosnt even have to be that complex. a few text chat messages and an empty map. just an empty map for some one to wonder around it. thats all! just an empty map! its a bare minimum, but please!

tutorial first!

If you played MW4 competitively you would remember the poptart snipers in 3rd person mode... It is a game changer.
