The only thing that keeps me here through the severe problems is the fact that you've stayed pretty close to what a Mechwarrior game should be. It reminds me of the good ol' days and for that I'm willing to wait and see if you can remedy the other major problems.
If third person view is implemented, I will uninstall this game and not return. Hawken here I come?

HELL NO TO 3PV crowd ... and I do understand why you want it that way ...
As long as the developers manage to implement it in a way that does not give the 3PV players any advantage over 1PV players, AND they don't force people to play one way or another ...
It will not change your gameplay experience one iota.
It is entirely possible to do 3pv in a way that fits this to a tee - simply don't render anything in 3PV that can't be seen in 1PV besides your own mech.
So if a player in 1pv can't peek around a corner or over a hill ... neither will a 3pv player.
------
Maybe the anti-3pv crowd needs to take a big breath and instead start asking the developers ...
"HOW ARE YOU GOING TO IMPLEMENT IT?"
... because we can't make a valid judgement if we do not know.

Some players feel that the game would be easier in third person, well that's totally true because the cockpit view is limited. In all honesty though, having that limited vision gives this game an edge very few have. Sure it takes some getting used to but it creates this deep immersion that keeps players coming back.
By adding a third person option you're breaking that immersion and giving players a handicap. It means that hardcore & old school players who want to experience the game for what it's supposed to be (first person) will be forced to fight players using third person viewing which gives them the unfair advantage of being able to look around corners, over walls, behind them, at their feet, and so on.
I love this game for so many reasons. My main reason though is how true it is stays to MW and how great that feels, I just don't get sick of this game; since closed beta I just can't stop. It's been executed so holistically, something so rare among games today. I would hate to see that vision get thrown off track because a different generation of gamers aren't able to adapt, or more likely, are unwilling to.
Thanks for reading, see you on the field!

Idea
Ever
Impossible to implement without giving people using one POV or the other an advantage over the other. Thus forcing you to further fragment the base than you already ARE doing by trying to segregate pugs from pre-made rather than adressing the issues that would allow pugs to compete with premades (in game voice, integrated chat BEFORE the drop, drop lobbies, etc)
Now on top of the pugs only drop with pugs and premades only drop with premades that you've pulled out of the hat (splitting the playerbase) you're going to have us split up as:
Pugs with 3rd person
Pugs with 1st person
Premades with 3rd person
Premades with 1st Persion
Seriously? What genius thought this was a good idea?

I propose we now all add a graphic at the end of all our posts signifying our intolernce to 3rd person view.
cause as it stands, the devs can easily ignore this issue and proclaim that it was a non issue .

When did I complain about having a disadvantage at any point. I love that argument. 3pv means you suck? Having options to use in an FPS game makes you suck? If you change your camera view in Madden 13 do you suck? If you zoom in someone does that mean you suck? Changing the view or perspective of things has nothing to do with playing well or not. What you said makes zero sense. [redacted]

The reason being it destroys the immersion factor which is a big reason I play MWO.
If newbs are having trouble then perhaps a better training system can be implemented.

battletech fans that are also the majority of your founders are completely against this.
If you feel the need to help out the new players then by all means add 3rd person view as an option for training. Make some progressive training missions with AI mechs to prepare people for the real deal. I also believe giving new players who complete the training a bunch of C-bills to help them on their way would be a great introduction for new players. Each training mission they complete can pad their balance to help them on their way. For a final training exit mission enforce 1st person as it is meant to be.
Don't lose your loyal fanbase and founders base over 3rd person!

I really hope the devs start to understand that there are certain opinions on the forums and the feedback they get that should be listened to, and others that they should not. This is one of those big should nots. This game is built around the immersion of being in a mech cockpit, it's part of the core characteristics that make this game what it is. Implementing a 3rd person view would make the 1st person cockpit absolutely obsolete. Line of sight targeting is a beautiful aspect of this game allowing for interesting ambushes and other tactics. The perspective and claustrophobia of the pilots point of view are part of the very essence of the game.
I have yet to see a 3rd person camera that does not have a vastly superior and unrealistic point of view advantage over 1st person, and I feel safe saying that even if measures were taken to reduce and equalize this problem there would still be cries from certain individuals about the restrictive camera. Then they'd have a bigger problem; taking away 3rd person or nuking the beautiful 1st person out of existence. Why is this 3rd person opinion even being considered, when it hasn't even been there as an option to draw players in? The beta has gone just fine without it.
They have to choose between pleasing a group of players that may bring additional profits (yes, I understand that even a F2P game needs to run on profits) or the core fanbase that has been wanting this game for years and will be shelling out a steady stream of money. Whether the devs pander to the casuals or not, regardless if that causes them to stay longer than the release of the next big game, they risk alienating the fanbase that's been keeping this game alive thus far.
Choose wisely, devs. My wallet was wide open, but now I'm a little bit unsure for how much longer. If the poll at the beginning of this thread is any indication, I'm not alone either.

NO 3rd person.
You, PGI, are drawing from the Battletech fanbase. That is your biggest asset right now. A huge part of the fanfare is that we want maximum immersion. We want to see the world and fight the battles from the perspective of the Mechwarrior. WE DO NOT WANT ANOTHER GD SHOOTER! You can try and turn it into that, try to tap into the masses that could potentially net your company the big bucks, but that is also your risk.
You see, us BT fans will stick with you through all the ups and downs as long as we believe you are trying to keep BT pure, and not trying to cater to the masses that should be playing other shooter games. If you start leaning to the random shooter crowd, you just might push your real fans too far and cause us to jump ship; all on the gamble that you can draw in enough from those other genre games to offset that loss. GL with that. It's a rough market for those games, and you may or may not make it, odds are against you. Right now you have a sure deal with all the BT fans around the world behind you.
Take away the immersion, take away the feeling that we are part of something grand when we are fighting our epic battles. See how it all pans out.

And to add icing to the cake, allow others to drop in spectator mode only--as an actual live instructor or student. There could be a list of volunteer instructors (sign up in the forums) and I sincerely doubt there will ever be a lack of volunteers. Even as-is a new player can group up without VOIP if they choose. The instructions could be standard text chat or VOIP. No pressure either way. Of course a pre-programmed instructor should also be an option.
