It'd be nice if someone from the devs could wade into here and tell us whats going on, in unambigous terms. I swear to anything that if they just ignore this massive backlash, it's going to cost them alot of goodwill from the fanbase. Just a simple "We hear ya', it wont happen." would prolly score them a few toasts around the world.
This would be nice as it's the determining factor on whether or not I stick with MWO. Losing faith in PGI with consistent poor & knee jerk decisions that DO NOT FIX THE ISSUES at hand. (still seeing 8-0 stomps in drops...)
2720 NO votes to 132 yes votes kind of sums up how the community feels about wasting development time and effort on this and the worst part is we'll likely still get stuck with it similar to how our cries about needing a Tutorial and a more streamlined new player experience before going open were ignored. When new players continue to leave after we get 3rd person, which everyone seems to see happening except for PGI, maybe we'll get a F'n tutorial, changes to grossly unbalanced starter mechs and an alteration to the harsh grueling grind that free players get stuck with.
Yes tutorials seem like a waste of money, time and developer resources, but you flat out HAVE TO HAVE IT! It's the difference between having a player sign up and playing for 2-3 hours then uninstalling vs creating a long term player. I have 2 friends who fall into the first category simply because they don't want to try and learn the mechanics while getting shot at for several reasons. One of which, it's not fun, but additionally because of feeling like they make it no fun for their teammates when they go in, alpha strike, get stuck on walls or die quickly from continued alpha strikes. Not to mention it's embarrassing to them.
3rd person fixes (potentially) 1 of these but does nothing for the rest. I honestly asked one of these players if he didn't play because of the torso twisting and would 3rd person bring him back. He laughed at me and gave me some of the reasons that I've lined up above.
I feel bad that I convinced him to get a founders pack (mid level) since he's literally only played 4-5 hours.
If you really don't want to believe those of us dedicated to the game, maybe you should send a poll to all the users in your database with 10 hours or less of game time and find out what they need/want or hate about the game.
