Its to tidy people ...

they have contained the posts into two topics that can be easily ignored. and dismissed

they can say off the cuff that were are not representive of their targeted audience or what ever excuse may seem plausible at the time.

use the Graphic In ALL YOUR POSTS ON THE FORUMS...

make sure its in their face because clearly, they want this issue to be a non issue .

"Our new players are having difficulty getting used to controls and concepts of our game"

"Maybe we should design some tutorials for them and let them run around a map and practice?"

"No lets implement a 3rd person camera"

It'd be nice if someone from the devs could wade into here and tell us whats going on, in unambigous terms. I swear to anything that if they just ignore this massive backlash, it's going to cost them alot of goodwill from the fanbase. Just a simple "We hear ya', it wont happen." would prolly score them a few toasts around the world.

Maybe 3rd person was okay in older mechwarrior games. The first ones where almost completely single player.. and the later games had almost nothing in the way of terrain to hide behind. A few hills, maybe some square buildings.

But here.. having any form of 3rd person would ruin the point of having all those buildings on the map.

Why go to all this trouble to build cover when you can just look around corners or over ridges?

I am so very sorry that I did not wade through all the ***** to find the gems! I mean, come on, another post above just shows what I mean: So because I would like to have third person view, because I feel the current cockpit-view only too difficult, I apparently want everything in life being handed to me. And I lack self discipline, and there was somethign about "being proud of your accomplishments". Some people take this very seriously, I'm beginning to understand.

I am indeed thankful that you pointed out the relevant parts for me again. However, I can only repeat: I don't need more information, I don't need tactics 101 (believe it or not, I am quite successful in other games), I don't need another display, and I don't want to lose the ability to rotate my torso independently from the legs. I simply want a visual interface that gives me more information with less cluttering and less load - 3rd person view. You don't have to like it and you can offer good arguments against it, but a lot of posters here are beyond dislike.

Face facts...you're in the minority here. They should just allow you to toggle off your hud info if you want less cluttering. Many people have already stated why 3rd person is a bad idea. If you can't get used to playing in first person, perhaps you DO need to find another game.

I favor an overhead wireframe with an arrow for movement facing and a field-of-view arc showing tosrso facing next to the minimap. Instead of cluttering up the available space let the warning voice report 'Obstacle encountered'.

That's certainly a possible angle. I figured clutter would come up, so placement would be key. Personally I'd take a small amount of clutter over the full 3rd Person POV.

Developers,

Please NO 3rd person view. You have a winner on your hands keeping this as a Simulation. Pilots are meant to be IN the cockpit.

Thank you,
Monnie

Starting with the fact that I thought No 3rd Person Camera was a part of your mission statement,

NO.

Continuing on, No. First off, there are far more things you need to worry about implementing, like communications and community warfare.

There is only ONE point where I believe third person view would be helpful, and that is for Observers. However AGAIN, this HAS to be a low priority.

If you add 3rd person view, please add a button to click to get my founder's money back.

Thanks!

I'll throw in with the no crowd. Also as far as skins and stuff goes it would be a lot cooler if you had some before battle stuff going on. Either dropship activity, zooming into your mech before the countdown, something. I dont know just not

Searching...
Black screen
waiting for players
countdown
launch

Make it look like your mechs getting ready for battle or something

While I am against the 3rd person viewpoint, people are giving you guys way too much **** for just doing your jobs. Keep up the great work, MWO is shaping up to be an amazing game that I will play for a long time to come.

And if PGI is looking to help out new players invest in a real tutorial (videos are weak come one seriously) and if PGI need some ideas then play the training missions in MW2/MW4.

Let them learn to steer/throttle
Torso Twist
Fire/learn about heat/dual recitals
Lead targets/group weapons

Lastly remember kill the meat not the metal

This would be nice as it's the determining factor on whether or not I stick with MWO. Losing faith in PGI with consistent poor & knee jerk decisions that DO NOT FIX THE ISSUES at hand. (still seeing 8-0 stomps in drops...)

2720 NO votes to 132 yes votes kind of sums up how the community feels about wasting development time and effort on this and the worst part is we'll likely still get stuck with it similar to how our cries about needing a Tutorial and a more streamlined new player experience before going open were ignored. When new players continue to leave after we get 3rd person, which everyone seems to see happening except for PGI, maybe we'll get a F'n tutorial, changes to grossly unbalanced starter mechs and an alteration to the harsh grueling grind that free players get stuck with.

Yes tutorials seem like a waste of money, time and developer resources, but you flat out HAVE TO HAVE IT! It's the difference between having a player sign up and playing for 2-3 hours then uninstalling vs creating a long term player. I have 2 friends who fall into the first category simply because they don't want to try and learn the mechanics while getting shot at for several reasons. One of which, it's not fun, but additionally because of feeling like they make it no fun for their teammates when they go in, alpha strike, get stuck on walls or die quickly from continued alpha strikes. Not to mention it's embarrassing to them.

3rd person fixes (potentially) 1 of these but does nothing for the rest. I honestly asked one of these players if he didn't play because of the torso twisting and would 3rd person bring him back. He laughed at me and gave me some of the reasons that I've lined up above.

I feel bad that I convinced him to get a founders pack (mid level) since he's literally only played 4-5 hours.

If you really don't want to believe those of us dedicated to the game, maybe you should send a poll to all the users in your database with 10 hours or less of game time and find out what they need/want or hate about the game.

Why the hell hasn't Russ Bullock dived on his own sword yet? Why hasn't Paul come out and taken the hit for presumably misleading the community with the 1pv is a "pillar" mantra they chanted for months? Where is Garth with "sorry guys, my boss is an *****"? Do these people just not GET IT or just not care? They've sold us one thing and decided to switch it with a downgrade. Sorry, if anything, I'll take a bump to 1st class. Are they waiting for us to band together and get a class action suit going for deceptive business practices? Are they testing our resolve here? Is this the ultimate troll job? No meant no, and still means no. Anyone organizing the "community response" outside of these threads, shoot me a pm.

maybe you should have readed the whole thing smart ***. yes, they where available on the others one, but the fact that they where allowed in any multiplayer part of the game is something that the mechwarrior community complained ever since they started multiplayer on MW. seen that things haven't changed much, huh.

Oh, I did read your entire post. You made a blanket statement that was patently false, and are now trying to back out of it by explaining it away with some other patently false informaion.

Simply put - you told someone who said they would enjoy 3pv being added to go play something other than Mech because Mech games have never been 3pv. Now you're admitting it is, in fact, been a part of Mechwarrior for (guessing here) 20'ish YEARS, but the "mechwarrior community complained ever since they started" - which is simply not true.

What IS TRUE is there has always been a % of mechwarrior players who will do nothing but complain and ***** and whine until they get only the game THEY want to play, and F everyone elses opinions.

What IS TRUE (at least in mw4 online play - cant speak much about the others as I played em but not online) - what IS TRUE is that the 1pv leagues were only a small FRACTION of the 3pv leagues popularity in # of active players and games played. Seems like a very stupid idea if PGI didn't take that into consideration, and I for one was astonished they didnt have it planned since day 1 and are only now coming around to realizing their mistake. I pray they do the same thing with Lobby's or some sort of organized manner to drop soon as well (and to be honest, I think that should take priority over 3pv).

You all need to take a step back away from the imaginary gun you're holding under your chin and chill the f out.
