No, no, and no.

The suggestion of making some training grounds for the new players to learn how to pilot and fight is a sound one--adding 3rd person at this point takes away from the whole, "I can't watch my back, and thus I need a team" aspect. Situational awareness should be one of those things that's limited by our chassis choices and supplemented by working with each other--not by hitting the "I have an omniscient view of what's around me" button.

ugh, if they want to 'help' new players how about a single player tutorial, eh? this immersion killing 3rd person BS ****** me off, given all the time they spent assuring us they wanted more of a sim game feel, rather than arcade.

If its players getting confused with torso twist, implement a "center legs to torso" button. That way if people get confused, they can just look to where they want to go and center their legs to take them there.

No 3rd Person View.

already in place: C on defaults.

on topic: 1537 AGAINST
76 FOR.

PGI: We cannot be any more clear, do not do this please.

If you're looking to add more viewing options, please consider supporting the Oculus Rift or TrackIR instead!

The way to attract new players is not to dumb down the game, but rather add features that help them understand, tutorials etc.

NO 3RD PERSON!

Well its good to see my mech and the skin i implement , it will be job to implement a firing system in 3rd person view . but then again it will make the game look silly , a choice between both would be able to see in a 3rd person view just to look around but to move and shoot we have to be in 3rd person . again its up to you guys.

the sounds my mech make as I walk, are scale enough. having massive pine trees go past my window in my atlas, tell me im a HUGE mech. THAT is all we need for scale. We are loudly saying this as clearly as we can: WE DO NOT WANT THIS THIRD PERSON CRAP. that simple. we cannot be any more clear.

It's not a simple yes or no issue. If anything PGI asked this question way too early because 90% of the players on the beta are hard core MW fans.

See the relation to the polls?

If anything they should just forgo the whole 3rd person idea until new players join the game so they can get an accurate poll. I say this because I have friends new to MW and they agree on both the issues that are/have been addressed to 3rd person but would still like the option.

If you think PGI are intentionally going to introduce a game breaking feature then I question why you became a founder.

In short, the use of 3rd person as an option is going to potentially ruin the gameplay.
The ONLY time I can see this being useful in ANY way is if it used as a spectator view for either players who have died, or spectators, which includes filming of games.
This game is meant to be about immersion into the Battletech / Mechwarrior universe. Addting 3rd person cheapens that immersion imho.

yes, yes it is. Paul said No. Now? PGI plays the liar and says yes? We cannot trust them if they do this. Simply put: we all say no.

Horrible idea. It would utterly destroy the whole point of fighting a mech, and destroy any immersive atmosphere. The whole point of MechWarrior is learning how to control your mech with torso twists and how to coordinate your different weapons with your twists etc... 3rd person would just turn the game into easymode and not be much different from driving a jeep or tank in Halo. What draws me and the people I play with is that its so different from other games out there. Don't go then and make it like every other game out there. Just my 2 cents.

i became a founder, because when they went on sale, I had faith in PGI and the franchise. Today that faith is lost with the suggestion of third person.

Oh my god! How hard is it to handle the concept of a twisting damn torso! You have one! All of you have one! You have heads too! They twist! How much stupid can their be on the face of this world!

No third person! If you like the idea **** off and go play one of the million shooters out their your minds can handle. This is as duh as jamming gauss rifles into machine gun ports. No, its worse.

MechAssault was a 3PV game. Is this what you're trying to build? Using that model will closest mimic thr field of view from the cockpit, but still opens it up on the sides, allowing a pilot to always see his/her direction of travel no matter where their torso is pointed. It might extend the range you can aim your arms left and right as well, assuming we'll still be able to do that. Sneaking up on 'Mechs can be sloved by having the camera right up on the 'Mech so there is no view at all of anything behind. Leaving the damage indicators they way they are or drawing the hits to the back on camera are moot, though yes seeing lasers hit your back is more noticeable for some.

3PV will make this a shooter, not a simulator. So ask yourselves, "What am I trying to build here?" If the answer is "Sim" then just put in your announcement threads something like "Thanks for your input, but a 3PV is not compatible with what we're building." If it's a shooter then you should have had 3PV from the start. If you don't know, then you're in bad shape.

no, being confined on the cockpic is like when you are driving, a truck. tehre are blind spot but you LEARN HOW TO PARK THE TRUCK LIKE A BOSS >_> .

its the same with a mech, combat awareness gets developed thanks to being forced to see only what the hud let you see, no more no less.

3rd person view is... making things easy.

now is you use a PROBE or a DRONE fine, but you are leaving the mech on its own luck and thats fair enough

If this ever happens, it will immediately bring the old 'alt-f4' gag back into fashion.

And I have my doubts whether there will be much sympathy for any victims in this particular case.

'Try alt-f2 to alt-f6? gives you different zoom angles. it crashes the game sometimes, but usually it will work after a few tries'
