Im very iinterested what they have in mind for the CW at all. I mean, splitting up the comunity in any way will make it harder to have a persistant map of the universe.
Situation: Dropships in the orbit of "Redfield"
Defenders: 8 Catapults, Pilots Class C (newbies, below-average players, Trial mechs)
Attackers: 8-man Group of the Darkblades Merc Corp (sorry if this really exists^^, high experienced, 2x every mechclass)
Result:Failing to find a match...

Dont even think about 1st/3rd pv splitup

The simple answer will be that before CW comes PGI will go back on the separation, just like they went back on no 3rd person until it was balanced. That's how the melding will occur.

+1. we all know (or those of us with a working brain anyway) that there will never be 2 games in 1 here. 3rd and 1rst will be mingled, either immediately or after a short delay. just know that now and either leave or get over it, because that is 100% for sure what will happen

The simple answer is, as werewolf486 put it, do not use 3rd person view. This would not split the community, not split contracts, would avoid clans having to enforce rules one way or the other, and would avoid the thousand other complications that the 3rd person perspective suddenly throws at us.

The metagame is at least a year away, in all likelyhood. If they go through with 3rd person and offer no options to weed out 3rd person players then they don't have to do anything with how community warfare works. If they allow a toggle allowing the exclusion of the different play types then they could build the community warfare with that in mind, allowing 3rd/1st only world, mixed world etc being the easiest and most likely solution. Either way we have a year to wait and try to convince the developers stop the 3rd view implementation.

If they want to cater to the newbs so badly then why not add a practice room. Problem solved.

Simple. You cannot fire your weapons in 3rd person view. it is like a drone/periscope, used for viewing only.

That's not a bad idea. It would allow for "corner peeking" but you can't take instant action if you're in view mode.

3rd person needs to be only in training grounds where no cash nor XP are earned. This way you cant grind in easy mode. You are there to learn and that is all.

I agree 3p only in training matches w no cbills/xp if anywhere. I'd much rather not see it at all.

3rd person is for casuals who probably don't have the time to put into community warfare in the first place.

Community warfare is 1st person only. If they want to participate, the just put up with it and adapt to a harder system.

See that's how it starts, but many casuals don't think they are casual or that even if they are casual they should have access to everything and limiting CW to 1st person only will be cutting them off. You watch and see if the separation lasts or if they decide that the separation was a big mistake soon enough.

Players could grow a pair and just play the damned game without crying about call of duty every time they try to make the game actually playable. That'd fix the problem.

Why is it suddenly such an issue? Every previous mechwarrior game has had it, WOT has it and is a significantly more competitive game then this will ever hope or dream to be. Then everyone goes on about how it'll turn this game into hawken... which is first person only, and people cry it isn't sim enough.

Its pretty clear that the community is afraid of modernization, simply on the basis of it being modern. Having a game people besides you can play isn't a bad thing.

By what logic?

The outcry of 90%+ of the hardcore "core" fanbase strongly disliking the idea of 3rd person.

I'm fine with it being implemented if it attracts more people, but let's segregate it away from the competitive experience.

Well, you guys can talk about all the possible ways they can have CW with 3rd and 1st separated... But the sad truth is, in the end, they will not separated them. We all know they're blowing smoke up our collective ***** on the whole 'separated' issue. Just as they did on the "No 3rd Person ever" claim they previously made.

I'm pretty sure that if Microsoft could Impliment line of site for Mechcommander 2, PGI could figure out how to do it now. Field of View/Line of site Cameras would be easy to make

Looking around the corner is the cheat, not lighting things up with sensors.

I guess I don't see where that will be very helpful. You still would have to move your mech around the corner to take a shot. And if you're not lighting up the enemy mech, what advantage is gained aside from seeing a mech trot by a couple of streets down in grid D3? Yes it is -some- advantage, but doesn't seem like much.

I'm 100% against 3rd person, but since the devs appear to want it, we'll probably see it. I just hope it is very restricted (does not Spot mechs, can't shoot from that view, takes at least a full second for your view screen to switch views from 1st to 3rd or back, etc.).
