Hey everyone. I'm a new player and I'm looking for feedback from you oldschool players regarding this game.

Firstly, I'd like to ask:

1. How long has this game been out?

2. How much P2W (pay to win) is it. How necessary is the buyable currency and how much of an advantage does it give over players who do not use it? I for one tend to spend cash on games but I'm interested as to what extent it takes place in this one. BSG Online for example ate salaries for me... :)

Secondly, as a new player I ask: what are the things you wish you knew about this game when u first started and would have helped you in any way?

Cheers and thanks for the feedback!

It's not pay to win but if you aren't paying it will take you a significant amount of time to get to an even playing field.

Why? In what way? You level up slower, you gather currency slower? Why? Details please :)

It was in closed beta since June, and open beta since Oct 28th.

Actual 'launch' will not be for a few more months.

There is no pay to win, although cash will get you things faster (either by Premium Time to earn +50% C-bills and XP, or to simply buy the mech you want faster)

Cash will also let you buy vanity items (paint your mech, cockpit decoration)

Hero Mechs are cash-only mechs, but they are not pay to win because they are not objectively better than existing mechs, only different. They offer unique hardpoints and a permanent 30% C-bill boost.

As a new player I encourage you to watch/read everything on the training ground page: http://mwomercs.com/...raining-grounds

If you have any questions after that, let us know

What do I wish I had known when I first started? How much more fun it is to play in an organized unit.

1. Open beta has bee a month or two now? I forget the exact date.

2. It is NOT pay to win. It is pay to cut the grind. If you have the time to actually sit and play this game for a while, you can make the money. If you can find a group to play with, it will make it a lot easier. If you do not have the time to play, it could take a while to get the sufficient c-bills if you want to do it all for free.

First things first: you can play everything in this game without spending money. There are only a few mech variants that are purchasable only + paintshemes.

Second is, prepare your body for one of the worst new player experiance in the gaming world today. I am only saying this because when you get past this.... the game is just amazing, long lasting fun.

There is too much to know about this game beforehand, you need to search information yourself because the game provides only very little in form of description.

It's not Pay 2 Win. It's Pay 4 Convenience. Everyone wins, just some win sooner.

Enjoy dying miserably because there's no tutorial and the trial mechs are the absolute most trash builds you could possibly drop into a match with.

YLW is not even close to P2W.

It is unique, but it is not any better than any other mech.

Running certain loadouts with a death and a loss can cost you more in game C-Bills than you earn. Premium makes the game more convenient even when you lose or when working toward a new mech/hardware.

I sincerely hope PGI improves player participation performance C-bill payouts because running a trial mech stupidly still earns more than doing best in your own personal customized mech .

Mwo is also known as World of Mechs. (without the gold ammo though)

Over 50% of it's systems is copied from Tanks. If you came from Tanks, then it won't be hard to understand the concepts of play like assault and upcoming clan warfare, and modify your mech in garage.

That's normal, that's the state of the graphics at the moment, it is foggy and griny even if you have the best pc tech.

There is no pay to win.

There is nothing to learn except strategy and how to build your mech effectively to your play style.

Your other questions are kind of irrelevant... just play.

It is mildly pay-to-win because players who are still grinding (and may be in awful trial mechs, or custom mechs without DHS yet, etc) get matched up against players who have fully customized mechs with maxed-out piloting skill trees routinely.

IMO you should pony up for a HBK-4SP or CDA-3M, and a week of premium time if you want to get a good start in this game.

Hero mechs have no advantage over any other custom built mechs.
