Trial mechs do not earn any XP. XP gives significant bonuses, so getting out of trial mechs ASAP is high priority, notwithstanding issues with trial mech balance.

You can either buy a mech with MC, or with the c-bills that you earn even when in trial mechs, albeit at a reduced rate.

Mostly die alot and get enough C-Bill to buy a light mech, then not die quite as often, but gain XP.

Trial mechs only give you money, but you dont have to pay to repair them. You save the money until you can buy your own mech.

One: play a lot of matches and earn several million C-bills (2 million to 12 million)

Two: Or buy MC

You save your C-bills and earn enough to purchase another mech..............................

I began with a Founder mech, but if I didn't have the founder mech, then I would have just farmed up C-bills with a trial mech. I farmed C-bills with my Founder mech then bought a Catapult-K2 as my second mech.

The only difference is that I could earn some MXP for my Founder's mech... which is not extremely important.

YLW is not even close to P2W.

It is unique, but it is not any better than any other mech.

I've been meaning to ask. If the YLW isn't anything special, why buy it?

Hero mechs have no advantage over any other custom built mechs.

Um, they're going to release hero mechs with flat out better hardpoints that other variants of the same mech. It's going to happen, there is no debate. The upcoming Cataphract is an example. 3 UAC5's, 3 Gauss, etc.

All of the hero mechs are not going to be better. Some of them will be quite mediocre like the Wang. But there are going to be outright better cash mechs. That's all there is to it.

XP does not give significant bonus... it gives a very marginal bonus which in all effect, (with basic masteries,) might make your mech 1% better than one with no specialization.

The most significant aspect of owning a mech, rather than using a trial mech, is the ability to customize its' loadout and to upgrade it with armor/structure, double heat sinks, and modules.

Hey everyone. I'm a new player and I'm looking for feedback from you oldschool players regarding this game.

Firstly, I'd like to ask:

1. How long has this game been out?

2. How much P2W (pay to win) is it. How necessary is the buyable currency and how much of an advantage does it give over players who do not use it? I for one tend to spend cash on games but I'm interested as to what extent it takes place in this one. BSG Online for example ate salaries for me... :)

Secondly, as a new player I ask: what are the things you wish you knew about this game when u first started and would have helped you in any way?

Cheers and thanks for the feedback!

Right now there's only 1 game mode and 4 maps so the gameplay content is not very varied at this point. I've found that the game's progression without a premium account or Founders/Hero Mech bonus is substantially longer than I'm willing to put into it for the current level of content. Unless you want to play the smallest and weakest of the mechs you'll be playing probably at least 60 rounds before you can afford one, depending on how many times you win or lose. As a new player you'll tend to lose.

Grind LIKE HELL by running at the enemy team(and shoot them a little, but die) with the fastest mech available and dying, leaving the match, and hopping right back in to die again. That's if you want to do it legit.

There are "alternatives"

The doubling of basic bonuses and the 7.5% speed boost from Elite are pretty big bonuses, fyi.

I'm sorry, but when you get doubled Coolrun, you get a 15% cooling bonus. That is effectively a straight-up 15% DPS bonus for anything that's not running dual gauss rifles. That's a huge bonus.

The upcoming Cataphract will have 3 ballistic, one in each arm, and one in the chest... that means a player has to deal with arm convergence then also aim the chest reticle... and what advantage does this have over my 4X with quad AC/5? I only have to aim the arm reticle for that.

Sorry, you are wrong. Hero mechs are not given an advantage over other mechs, aside from possibly looking cool.

It is special. It just isn't objectively better. It has a unique hardpoint layout (2x Ballisitic RA, 2x Energy CT) allowing for an AC-20 in the arm, and it comes with a permanent +30% C-bill boost (which stacks with premium time boost)

It is a unique variant and it helps turn an initial investment of cash into gobs of C-bills (for the lifetime of you account)

Do not listen to this player. Although the bonuses one can acrue with XP are nice to have, it does not give a major bonus in battle, but it does help. It's little more than an incentive to continue your progression in MWO.

You won't learn much by suiciding either. It will kill the fun of the game for you.

Give you a 30% c-bill boost.

If you like the hardpoints, it is well worth it.

It allows for different, superior builds, Triple Gauss or Triple UAC5(this one in particular) is far, far better than a silly quad AC5 build. If you're having aiming problems because something is on the arm and the other is on the chest I feel bad for you son, because they do this magical thing where they converge, at which point you shoot. Anyway, I'm not arguing about whether you're bad or not, we're talking about how the Hero Cataphract obsoletes the 3D and 4X.

You sir, have no clue at all. The hardpoints are not better by any chance. 3 Gauss is a fail build and there are even better builds than 3x UAC5.

How is 15% cooling rate and 7.5% run rate *not* a large bonus that makes you directly better in combat? Stop being so silly.

So is not a more flexible mech a "better" mech?
