Finally finished building my MWO PC! This is the first time i ever built a PC from scratch. Been trying to build this thing since May but every time i had money saved up something went bad on my truck and had to fix it. By the time I finished building this gaming rig i practically have a new truck now, lol.

Anyway here are my specs and some pics of the building proccess.
Thanks a bunch for all the help those of you on the forum here gave me in the proccess of learning how to shop for the right parts.

Case
PSU
Motherboard
CPU
GPU
HDD
CD/DVD ROM
RAM
OS

Now that's what i call good cable management! Having a really big case has it's perks! You should have seen my last gaming rig...when it came to cable management it was a disaster!

My OS arrived in the mail from newegg and all i need to do now is purchase a Monitor this friday(payday for me). AMD FTW! Hopefully i'll be ready to drop and stomp by Saturday afternoon this week! WOOT

You posted this on "teh interwebz", here comes the criticism!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Actually, looks like a really clean install, and excellent cable management ^^ i think you're nuts to pay that much for a computer case. . but I paid $250 for mine, so I'm nuts too ; )

I'm really curious to hear how the performance is while gaming, specifically CPU temps @ load [can be measured with Hwmonitor] and how your FPS are in MwO. I'm considering partially rebuilding my son's desktop with one of those processors, and having a real world report of performance would be VERY insightful : )

Good to see it came together. Congratulations on a new PC.

That's quite a good looking rigg you got there!

The one thing that upsets meis that it looks like you didn't care for the airflow at all, I put my fans in the front, a nicely big cpucooler in the middle and some 120mm or 140mm fans in the back of my case.
And your case looks like it's also made for this kinda airflow-system!

I also prefer Intel CPUs, the 3570k is just awesome(and not much more expansive), but I guess that's up to everyones personal preferences =)

cheers,
Gherkin

Yeah, i got a 200mm fan in the front. You can't see it very well but i have my HDD directly behind the fan. Got a 140mm fan in the back and a 120mm fan on the top. There's room at the top for me to put another 200mm fan but i'm going to wait till i upgrade my stock heatsink to an H100 next month.

I also got two 120mm fans(i think that's what they are) on my GPU and i can and might install 2 more 120mm fans on the side of the case(which will blow directly on or away from the GPU depending how i position the fans). I'm not going to really get the fans organized until i get the H100 though.

I'm thinking of having all the fans in the case blow the air inwards in attempt to create positive pressure, then have the top fans(the two 120mm fans that come with the H100) blowing the air out of the case. I'm thinking of doing this because of the old "hot air rises/cool air sinks". If anybody has a better idea on how to more properly orient my fans with an H100 radiator installed on the top i'm all ears because i really haven't given the fans much thought until you mentioned it, lol.

The rule of thumb is that you pull air from outside the case through the radiator.

When you put a load on the computer, it's going to start generating heat inside the case, which in turn means warmer air traveling through the radiator on the way out of the case. You can have all the air coming into the case that you want, but if you're not venting the heat of the components effectively, it's just going to get trapped in the case. With the fans on the rad pulling air from the outside, you're making sure the coolest ambient air is being used to cool the radiator [and by extension your processor].

You still need good exhaust to vent the heat, however.

keep in mind, the above is not the end all be all. There are several schools of thought on most efficient cooling, and you have to take into account case design, graphics card airflow design [mine actually vent into the case, as opposed to something like a reference card design, which is enclosed and vents out]. I went with the above because that's what corsair recommended, and the theory seemed sound.

and don't forget, you can also add two more 120mm fans on the other side of the H100 for a push-pull configuration to help cool the radiator as well. Unfortunately, the H100 doesn't come with extra screws, but you can get the dimensions online and get them from a local hardware store : )

Here is my first youtube video i ever made. It's ingame footage of me playing MWO on my brand new PC! It runs verrrry smoooth. I'll run a proper benchmark once i upgrade my CPU's stock heat sink to an H100 next month.

Oh, i'm not sure if this is what you'd consider a proper benchmark but with running MWO on max Dx9 graphics on 1080p rezolution on full screen mode with Fraps in the background, i ran an average of 40-50 FPS and in the heat of battle sometimes dropped down to 30 FPS. Never went below 30 FPS.

When it comes to my hardware, my motherboard stayed in the 30-40c and my CPU that is using a cheap heatsink that came with it went as high as 59c.

that is a honkin GPU holy cow 3 slots for the heatsink. How effective is the cooling on it? Worth the extra slot?
