This is the point where the thread goes off topic.

Also paid for the promise of a certain type of game being developed, ie: mech simulator.

If they put 3rd person in, I'm playing third person.

I really don't care if people sit there and say that they're playing first person only. You'll eventually give in and switch over or you'll get bodied by people that can see over hills and around corners.

Look at the previous poll, less than 10% will use it. Another server is moot, they will merge eventually.

Yeah.. I don't want to derail the topic... as much as I would like to rebuke your delusions of what you get for a Founders package. Apologies to the OP.

While I agree that 1st person view should remain the only option... I have to call you out for this:

You paid to get a Founders Mech, 2000 MC, guaranteed access to Closed Beta and premium bonus for 60 days.
You paid for nothing else.

I'll disagree. First I was already in the beta. Second, I only purchased the Founders Pack to support the great Mech SIMULATION franchise I love so much. The items that came along with the money I spent are nice, but not why I chose to buy the Founders.

If I had known they were considering 3rd person, I would have held off buying a Founders until I had more solid facts.

MechAssault probably sold better than any other MW title.

If the option for 3rd is in, the way they said with separate matches and the ability to filter what you fight, I might use it from time to time.

No one is going to force you to play 3rd. All the threats of quitting are just as tantrum-y as the cryfests about this and that. Most of you mock those, and you threaten to quit over 3rd.

While I totally agree with you, allow me to rephrase the sentiment so as to avoid semantic non-arguments used to discredit the founders arguments:

"I have actively provided money to support a project on the basis of its design specifications such as they were available at the time. While I did not actively purchase anything (beyond the perks of my package) as this is a F2P game i did this under the understanding, the promise if you will, that the game that was being developed was the game that was promised by the information available at the time of my 'buying' into the founders program. Some of these elements i consider to be essential to the experience that I was told would be provided are:
  • Community warfare
  • A first person only experience
  • A primary focus on team-based role warfare
  • A faithful but balanced representation of the BT/MW property
  • A more simulation and immersive style of game play
Without all of these elements being fairly addressed and put in place in a reasonable time frame, as a member of the founders project I feel I have some grounds for complaint. The game is not yet finished and a reasonable time frame for some of these elements has not yet elapsed so the the things worth getting upset about, as a founder, are the elements they (PGI) are going back on themselves and considering things they explicitly stated they would not consider.

The source of my complaint is that I have invested in an idea with some specific guidelines and it would appear that those guidelines that were instrumental in my investment may end up being changed or ignored on what seems like a whim from the player bases perspective"

I hope that's clear enough that we can now say "i paid for the promise of..." and it will be understood what we mean.

EDIT: accidentally quoted the wrong post.

LOL.. Aint that the truth!! :P

The perfectly valid personal, internal, decisions and reasons as to why you chose to buy a founders package has absolutely nothing to do with what you received for your purchase. PGI has absolutely no obligation to provide to you anything more than what was described on the package information that you bought... which I am pretty sure did not list anything regarding the type of game they designed, or what player point view they would be provide in such a game.

Founder does not mean Producer, Owner, or Designer. It's just a fan donation that comes with zero authority over the design features of the game.

MechAssault sold more only because it came free in a xbox bundle.

I never meant to sound as if I thought by my buying a Founders pack that I saw myself somehow as a Producer, Owner, or Designer. I bought the pack based on my experience with older MW games, mostly MW2 and 3 and a desire to see this game succeed. From playing beta before Founders and reading Dev posts from early development, I decided to buy because I felt they were the right people for the job and shared my views on what MW is. They seem to be adapting their views. That is fine. The game must make money and draw in new people. I understand this.

I will hear them out on 3rd person. But I don't want to play 3rd person and the moment I feel I am at a disadvantage playing in first person, I'll move on.

lane that is not the point the have said they will have seprate servers for each style and I'm wondering which will be played.

Not if so many people quit because they put in 3rd person view. Even if they have two servers I will quit because it is not worth my time staying around the sinking ship.

This game already has a limited player base and splitting it over 2 servers will kill it even faster. Even if they set up one 1st person and 1 3rd person sever I am out of here. I don't like getting sold b u l l s h i t. We were told this was going to be a simulator from the beginning. If they do this now what the hell else are they going to do in the future? Thanks I will take my cash and go.

No I invested in a product and now that product is potentially drastically changing from what I was told it would be for PGI to get my investment. As a thank you for my investment I was given gifts. Those gifts were Founders Mech, 2000 MC, guaranteed access to Closed Beta and premium bonus for 60 days. But my investment was still to bring the game concept that was pitched to me for my investment forward.

Now clearly I am not a founder, but that is how these programs work to gather operating capital prior to releasing a game.

If they implement 3rd Person the same way Mech4 was, then 3rd Person will make precision weapons use much more difficult in exchange for better area awareness. Precision shooting will, for the majority, be done by first person simply because of the reticle elevation displacement that was evident in Mech4, especially at close range.

As long as they require the view switching to be done from the options menu or in the very least not performable in-game, i personally dont have an issue with there being 3rd Person view.

if 3rd person gives me an edge over my target then i am forced to use it if i want to remain competitive with other 3rd person users.

You're right.

In fact, since COD is so popular I think MWO should be morphed into that. As a Founder, I only want PGI to mold this game into whatever makes them the most money, not what they said the game would be to solicit Founders.

The single, only reason I would like to see 3rd person would be to occasionally grab a cool screenshot, and that's nowhere near enough to offset the reasons not to do it.

Terrible idea. Don't do it.
